Whatya want for the wheels mate is muck of tar remover greeny / black stuff it is spray on whipe of nerver used anything so easy and good at removing wheel dirt and grime think its about 6 quid
What are you using to polish the fuel cap mate and how? Looks omazin mate, I think you've planted the seed lol
i used thinners to get all the paint off then scraped the rest with a stanley blade as the original honda silver paint was a bitch to get off, then used 800 w&d then 1200 then 1200 with solvol and then solvol on a damp rag, then buffed it with a cloth. i know some people say solvol is too abrasive but try it on a damp cloth, it's beltin stuff. the hangers were so badly corroded cos i had a go at polishing them last year and had stripped the lacquer off leaving them very exposed. i promise to try and keep it clean lol! thing is, i just ride the thing and have never really been one for spending all day cleaning and polishing... i wont have much choice now with it all being white & shiny! @steely... i will defo give these suggestions a try... the wheels, i'll coat them in gt85. it''s the chain im bothered about.. ive been using some Arco Hard Surface cleaner.. about a fiver for a gallon i (use it at work on machines) and it's fantastic at cutting through crap, same thing, just rinses away ... might put some more pics up after when it's all back together
Nice mate, can you post some pics please of the cap when its trimmed so I can have a look what It's like finished? Tbh I think I'd use a machine to polish, cba with sore fingers lol. And yeah agreed autosol is better with a damp cloth
yeh the carbon trim may be a while coming tho cos i ordered it from china. not paying stupid £ for stuff i can get for next to nawt.. polishing machine??? puff!
cant fit the fairing til tomorrow cos im waiting on some more trim,,,, but nearly done. just got to fit battery, bleed brakes & clutch then try & fire it up! fairing & decals tomorrow then a good polish tell you what tho it feels light as a feather compared to the kwak
Aye up Martin that looks the dogs bollox, What you up to Tuesday? Was gonna pop bye & pick up that scoot for Dave. Will be doing the rounds delivering tyres as well.
im back in work tuesday daz, should be back for 5 like, earlier hopefully then i can mot the bike, and ped! if you're round earlier is ok m8, just help yerself - you might even get a brew lol! not gone near it yet lee, didnt see the point til its all together cos theres dirty marks all over it now lol. might end up giving the tank another coat tbh but i'll get it on the road 1st. noticed a few flaws in it but i'll see what it comes up like with a t cut
It will be late on tbh mate as I have to go collect all the tyres from Lincoln, then its a case of meeting up with everyone. Was hoping to get most people to come & meet me nearer to your place as this will make my life easier
theres a few guys on the vtr site have done theirs like that - some are outstanding. like this one :- dave sp2 o some have done away with the side rads and put a larger one in the middle but i like the way dave's made a feature of it instead. looks a bit like a honda tuono! that's the best thing about the firestorm imo, they are so cheap - you can pick one up for a grand or so, but they are so moddable. you very rarely see 2 the same. i prefer the faired look meself but have been toying with doing a cafe racer style bike with my cbx750 as its just sat there doing nothing atm. just finished another one of the panels with a plain decal on - feels silky smooth should look good waxed up in the sun!
looks spot on that m8,ive always had a bit of a soft spot for the firestorms. :w00t: me thinks you should drag your mower out tho, that lawn is mafis...lol :yahoo: :yahoo:
Looking good mate! I love the storm's too. I was looking for one a while ago but I was put off at the tank range. Didn't they fit a bigger tank to the later models, how do you find it on juice?
tbh mate it;s no worse than my other bikes... ive got the 19L tank on mine and have had over 200 miles on it plenty of times... my personal best was from bulldog lat year and i did 240 before filling up & got 18.5L in lol so was down to fumes (scary!) bear in mind thats with a few runs down the drag strip as well... i get about 140 before the light comes on, sometimes less depending how ive been riding it, as low as 90 sometimes! with the 16L tank most guys are filling at 100 mile which is about the same (if not better) than other vee twins like the tuono for example. i did find that since i put the hrc cams in, bmc filter & dyno kit, it's actually been better on fuel... maybe cos i dont have to cane it so much, though it lives between the redline & limiter 99% of the time! if youve just come from a 250 or 600 IL4 then yes, the economy will seem low, but if you're used to 1000cc bikes or other twins there's no difference. dont let that put you off - theyre a belting machine & very understated, especially when the usual mods have been done, ie tensioners, reg rec, harder fork springs etc... the fighter look before the fairing goes on stuck half a gallon in it earlier and it fired up no problem... shook the walls!!! god ive missed that sound - watch out, there's a storm coming
Sound bud, at the time my budget wouldn't stretch to the later model with the bigger tank. Got to agree tho, if you have one you need the asbo cans, standard cans just don't cut it. Best one I heard was a buell with a remus race system, shat meself when that thing fired up lol It's an option I may look at next year, but I want to keep my cbr if the Mrs will let me lol
