Has anybody tried/hiring a campervan or small motorhome in the uk and took it over TT week? Will the hire firm let you do it as it's out of the uk? Thinking of going down this route for 2015,taking one over on the ferry and getting into a campsite when there. I can go over with my bike on non race weeks in the future just to go around the place to do the"circuit",do this myself as my wife won't pillion
If you do then check http://www.steam-packet.com/ for the maximum size vehicles, although during tt fortnight they do allow larger than the maximum normal sizes (6.5m x 3m I think). You will need to book for 2015 during practice week 2014, this years van/camper tickets were released at the terminal but not online so you will need to be ringing them. The van/camper places sell out quick, especially the returns for the last weekend of race week. If you leave booking it till race week they will all be sold. There are camp sites that you can use at various places so no problem getting on and even if you don't there are loads of places on the island you could just 'park'.
Thanks for the heads up with the info mate. The other alternative would be to hire a campervan on the i.o.m... but reckon i'd prob have to book now for 2015! Bloody hell,it's seems a lot of hard work and planning just to go to it.But desperate to do it. Might just go over with my bike on my own and a bin bag to sleep in LOL.
Is anyone going to the Isle of Man TT next year? I have just booked my ferry for Wednesday, 28 May I don't know where I will be staying yet but I probably will be camping around Douglas area I've never been before so I don't really know where to go on or what I'm looking for etc It would be good to meet up with you's over there if anyone is going? Cheers
I would love to go and aiming for 2015,as told several times now it is hard as fuck to sort out accommodation and trying to get on the ferry(also booked well in advance)..... Annoying really. It is also hard and a little daunting if you are like me planning on going on my Todd and having never been before!! It would be better to go with a organised group til find out what's what.
first time i went, i went for the day !!! took a push bike over on the fast boat from Heysham, cycled round abit and found somewhere to stay for the following year ..been going ever since then, did the whole fortnight, once which was abit too much ( if thats possible) then a the full race week, now i just fly out on the last day of practice and watch the race sat mad sunday and race Mon before flying home monday eve.......best weekend of the bike year for me ....FUCKIN LOVE IT
If you look on the Duke Motorsport website you can get a DVD called IOM circuit guide. It shows you some good viewing places and crossing points etc. you can also pre-order the race programme which comes with a spectators guide. Douglas is the liveliest place at night, they usually organise stunt shows etc. Bushys beer tent is there as well with live bands and.... BEER! There are hundreds of viewing places, and you can view at more than one per race if you do a bit of planning.
Looking at going now... Sat 31st(get there dinnertime) to weds 4th june(back home in morning),camping at Douglas.... Will know Defo monday
i'm staying a homestay and she has another room, now whether she still has it I don't know for sure. in douglas
This years is off for me as I got to much going against me and come up. :-( I had originally planned to go 2015 anyway,So that is what I intend doing! Now what I'd like to ask and favours/info... There must be quite a few bikers on here who go regular or know bikers that do? Does anyone have any details of b an b's or guest houses that could be booked for NEXT year? So I can contact them to book. How soon can you book/will they take bookings? Same goes for the ferry? How soon can you book for next year? My ideal plan is to go by ferry taking my bike and staying at a bike friendly b and b(rather than camp) for around 4\5 days.... Now the ferry if taking the bike I believe they supply the straps for your bike, what happens exactly? Like I say most of you may have been to the TT or always go.... All I am asking is for you to share your knowledge/contacts/tips/info to a biker who desperately wants to go the TT next year. Cheers, chalky
I am going to bsb at oulton park and donnington park as a alternative to going tt this year(ticket bought for oulton)... But always wanted to go bsb.... At least that is defo happening
You can book the ferry about a year in advance, so give them a ring at the end of May this year. You just ride the bike on and they will put a strap or rope over the seat. It's worth taking an old towel to throw over it first to prevent any scratches etc. Most if the hotels and B&Bs are ok along Douglas prom, although they are dated compared with hotels on the mainland. The Manx people don't like change very much, so it's a bit like going back in time a bit
Cheers mate. Going be looking at booking the ferry and a b and b in may this year for 2015! Good tip about the towel, for the strap! Appreciated
