Well I went to ats, but the bastards closed early. Spotted a little bike shop on my way back called jw motorcycles or something like that on derby road a mile or so from the ats. Popped in on the off chance he had one. (Couple of nice chaps just setting up shop there). He didnt have one but gave it a go with a 24v 1/2" makita impact wrench with no luck due to the axle spinning even with a bloke trying to hold it in place on the other side. He agrees splitting the nut off is probably the best option now considering ive fucked the axle bolt head too so thats the route im gonna take. Cheers for the help though chaps. Im gonna go sulk now till my parts arrive and I can MOT it... and then never touch a motorcycle bolt, nut or screw again lol. There is a lesson to be learned from this guys - if ever you need tools out my bag at the roadside, dont let me touch your bike... do it yourself lol. Inb4 a 1" windy will sort it lol.
The nut is flanged at the back so its would be very difficult for plus gas to penetrate all but the very front threads. If the nut was in a better position I would have tried it...can't really justify buying it for one occasion it probably won't work on when I have 5litres of wd40 already. Ill be using one of these to get it off... and if I break that (seeing as it uses a bolt head to turn it ) ill just use an angle grinder and shout obscenities to get the fucker off lol
it gets in by capillary action and wd40 is not a penetrating fluid. have i said by the way a 1" windy gun will shift it for you?? seriously if you would of tried one aaaaages go the job would of been done by now and it doesn't matter that the spindle turns when you've been trying it.
ill give Ats one last go on Monday morning to keep you happy if my mot hasn't run out by then haha.. i know its sometime this month but haven't checked when exactly. alm: if it has ill just wait for the parts and cut it off as its gonna need replacing either way now.
I have seen a seriously strong bloke struggle to release a tractor nut that was red rusty. He gave it a squirt of Plus Gas and next day it came off easy. Like Bloke said, WD-40 isn't penetrating fluid! It is well worth having a tin in your garage, or in your case, your back pack lol. Another tip is to get a set of impact gun hex sockets. As these are 6 sided, they can't round a nut off. You can buy them separately, so you can just buy one as you need it.
Well ive not had chance to get to anywhere yet but the parts are all here now so im gonna whizz it off tonight and avoid myself the embarrassment of a 1" windy shifting it lmao:thumbsup:
Well that's pretty comprehensively fooked - I'm guessing you're now on the hunt for a new axle bolt aswell ....
Haha this was taken on sunday, the day after. Was taking a girl out so had to have a bit of a scrub lol. Haha yeah the axle got replaced too as I stripped the bolt head on the other side
Haha, you well and truly fucked that, least you got it off though and you're sorted . Going work on my bike tomorrow and my chain does need taking up a bit. If the axle nut is a bit tight would you recommend just buzzing it with the 3/4 or inch windy or completely fucking mullering the axle assembly and fitting new parts? .
