    India? 2001 India Census:

    Hindu 80.5%, Muslim 13.4%, Christian 2.3%, Sikh 1.9%, other 1.8%, unspecified 0.1% (2001 census)

    They're mostly Hindu in India:

I think you'd be accepted without 'covering up'. This is exactly the problem: People don't know what they're talking about half the time.

As for our laws, we should want fewer laws rather than more laws. Just because some other counties are oppressive, it doesn't justify 'retaliatory' oppression here.

That's still 13% that won't accept her. It was a generalisation or did you not get that?

With news the way it is these days is there any worry that I dislike people that I can't see? It's in nerving and well my opinion. I'm by no means racist however I do dislike some cultures rules and people sponging off MY taxes. I don't mind if they need it but it makes my blood boil when they take advantage. (They being everyone)

A generalisation is not a good thing. And no, 13% is not 'generally' the case. It's a distinct minority. If you knew anything about British colonial history, you'd know that the only reason we have Pakistan is because of the tension in what was India between Muslims and Hindus in a secular state. If you want to know where all the Muslims are, look towards Pakistan:

    Religious population In Pakistan
    • Muslims: 181,723,000 (Over 97%; Sunnis are the majority, while Shi'as make up 10–22% and
    • Christians: 2,700,000 (approx. 1.8%)[sup][35][/sup]
    • Hindus: 1,800,000 (approx. 1.3%[sup][34][/sup])
Even so, you were talking about laws, not generalisations. There are no laws mandating head scarves in India (not even sure they do in Pakistan - being mostly Sunnis). You have to look to Iran for that kind of thing.

And get off your high horse about 'your' taxes. You've probably barely paid back 25% of the cost of your education, never mind other public services. You, and me, and most working people up to their early-mid 30s will be in deficit to the state. If you're so concerned about taxes, then just take a look at the bill for state pensions and public sector pensions (which are both funded from tax revenue). Then look at the looming long term economic crisis. That's a far far greater challenge than a few benefit abusers.

And your position on people covering their face is pretty ironic, considering you're a motorcyclist.

I hate these topics. I have views that could be classed as racist, but as well as patriotic.

I'm not personally arsed whether Mohammed Bin Laden wants to bring his family of 90 over here. If the home country is not working out for you, you emigrate.

The thing that annoys me is that these "Immigrants" are attempting to claim this country for themselves. They've already got the government on their side.

I just wish times would roll back a decade and England would be owned by the English Natives. Not by the feckless, dimwitted, failure we call a government now.

A decade? Need to roll back about six decades for that.

Taxes that in time everyone pays off in a lifetime. We have accept this and live with it. Some people abuse the system. I'm not saying these people are ALL for else where but I'm saying it happens.

As for the covering thing I wear a lid for safety.....

I love these topics coz I'm an immigrant and sponged off the system when I first arrived.
Unfortunately being the greedy type I wasn't happy with the £50 every other week and was given a lucky break.

Now I'm self employed I find that I add to the economy by funding an accountant, HMRC, a youngster for office duties, and also fund all those fashion shops in Liverpool One that my girlfriend loves so much. Lol

Those people on benefits could also be just like me when I first arrived and waiting for their break? Who knows, one of them could be the next Richard Branson who employs your kids.
So give us Johnny Foreigners a break, we didn't all come here to rob ya! Lol

Sorry when I talk of people taking the mik I mean health fit people staying on benifits because it's easier than working and people that don't want to work because they don't like mixing with other cultures.

I'm guessing when you came over you intended to work ASAP and wanted to make something for yourself. Can't imagine being on the dole as it would be a soul destroying

Erm nope, my intention was to get on the dole ASAP and then try make a better life for me.

It is soul destroying waiting in queues with people who appear to have "given up hope", the sights, smells, drugs, alcohol, bad language, fighting etc are second to none. Also didn't enjoy being treated as a second class citizen (spot the irony coming from a South African).
I started in Slough...enough said. lol

Alex I like your outlook on life I also like you because you have a younger outlook on life however you need to become less abrasive when someone different has a view.

I have a very open view on life but as I get older my political ideals have changed and whilst your factual attributes to this thread are appreciated you need to understand that not everyone has your outlook on life.

Our lives are not simple and the amount I pay in taxes cannot be related to the cost of my education or training to thus point in my or anyone else's life.

And here's where you may find my attitude a little abrasive, I served my country for 5 years and whilst it may not have been in front of a gun I still feel I did my part, there are many members on this forum who did see the wrong end of a weapon to preserve your right to the life you lead and this is where I get fucked off, why should I feel embarrassed if I'm patriotic or that I want to tell the world how good the uk is? Why should I as a tax paying citizen support nob heads who don't want to work, why should I have to put up with a person or belief who wants to change all I am?

    Daz,

Elliot queried this in private and I accept that my tone can be a little too direct at times, and apologised.

The truth is that I absolutely sympathise with a lot of the sentiment expressed in the OP and in Elliots views, and your own views. But as I said to Elliot:

The reason I get quite frustrated is that those sentiments are so often backed up by baseless 'Daily Mail' type arguments and falsehoods. The headdress thing, and single examples of benefits fraud. These things are just red herrings. They're insignificant, almost irrelevant. All that does is drown the real root and substance of problems, and discredit any political position that supports tackling some of those issues.

I don't think that there's anything wrong with patriotism, so long as it isn't blind.

And I don't see why tax payers should support the lazy and workshy. I'm pretty right wing in my personal views, actually.

But, this is a discussion forum. And these are serious issues. If you're going to make a claim (or express an opinion based on some claim), then make sure you can back it up somehow or other, but otherwise don't be surprised if you're picked up on it. Coming to the right conclusion by means of a flawed understanding and false premises, is just not going to progress a cause. In fact, it often discredits a cause. Despite their intentions, the BNP and EDL are the very worst enemies of the interests of British nationalism and patriotism, not their best proponents.

    Some facts around tax: http://www.ukpublics...nding_pie_chart

    UK Government Spending FY 2012:

    Total: £712bn
    GDP is around £1500bn

    Pensions: £129.3bn (19%)
    NHS: £123.8bn (18%)
    Welfare: £111.7bn (16%)
    Education: £93.3bn (13%)
    Protection (Armed Forces): £47.2bn (7%)

    What does that tell us?

First of all, government expenditure accounts for nearly half of GDP. That's far too much, in my opinion. Certainly too much to encourage the private sector growth and international competitiveness we need to overcome this recession. The US equivalent is about 35%-40%.

Second, welfare expenditure isn't just about a few fraudulent claimants, or a small foreign drain. It's far more significant than that. Why? I'd say it's too generous, and too accessible. Others will say it's not generous enough. That's a matter of opinion. Either way, it's extremely costly. And Elliot is right to be concerned about his tax, as 16% of it gets spent on welfare. But, 19% gets spent on pensions. A state pension Elliot (and I) will probably never see, as well as public sector pensions which don't pay for themselves. Then you've got the demographic timebomb which is just about hitting us, and is going to start costing more than ever. A further 18% gets spent on the NHS, which has been notoriously mismanaged, riddled with bureaucracy and associated with striking incompetence far too often.

As for armed forces. Well, this might offend some people, but it's not about the protection of British freedom at the moment. We have a nuclear deterrent, a police force, an intelligence agency (or two) and international diplomacy for that. It's mostly about oil, and partly about maintaining some sense of international significance in a changing world. Libya, Iraq (twice), Afghanistan (although that also has ties back to the Cold war). We spend far too much on foreign 'war', and the only reason I can see that we do (in most cases) is because it helps secure affordable energy. Which I suppose is a freedom of sorts, but hardly the kind of freedom we were protecting in WWI/WWII.

So anyway, if you're very concerned about your tax, don't focus your attention on a couple of lazy foreign benefits claimants that you've read about in the tabloids. Yes, that's a matter of principal for many of us, but it's insignificant. It's a distraction. Look at the bigger picture.

To refare to it as " couple of lazy foreign benefits claimants " is a little bit of an understatement, it is estimated that around 5.2 billion (thats a bit more than a couple) is STOLEN every year!!!

This 5.2 billion could help the old people keep warm in the winter, it is also estimated that there around 947000 ileagal immigrants could be at large in england, some one is paying for them, i wonder who that is? if there illegal and working the chances are there not paying any tax and therefore not contributing, my point being CLOSE THE BORDERS, round up all the immigrants both legal and ilegal and send them home. this would free up so many jobs it would be un real. the government would then be able to force english people off bennifits and into work! Dont get me wrong theres a hell of a lot of lazy english people who would prefare to stay on benifits, but the more you can get back to work the more tax that will be getting paid.

The thing is Alex this country if full of wanna be do gooders, tree huggers, and human rights actavist that people(including goverment) are frightened to say what really needs to be done, for fear of offending someone, I personally would put them on a wall and shoot them, then get on with the buisness of fixing the country.

I also find it funny that when ever you see a human rights tw*t on the telly, its allways some posh sounding c*nt, that obviously has money. Not some poor breadline family from doncaster.

oh and to finish i would also shoot 90%of the dead head students that iv had the unfortuate pleasure of meeting, i say 90% because there are some genuine good students who really want an education, not just p*ss it up the wall for three years, on a virtually free loan!!!
