After Oulton Park the other day I said to myself I would start the strip down of the bike.

Those who have seen it, it's not in bad shape except for a few things that have been getting on my nerves.

This is what I have planned:

    Strip calipers and rebuild.
    Install braided hoses.
Install crash bungs and uprated coolant bottle.
    Paint front forks.
    Paint rear swing arm.
    Install new foot pegs.
    Put the undertray on.
    Paint wheels.
Fabricate a new number plate/indicator bracket complete with light.
    Finish off with new decals.

This is what I got done today:

    Stripped the bike, fairings etc.

nice one m8 - dunno how the fk you got that far tho, ive seen your tool kit lol
tip... wipe that coppaslip off the calipers... they get warm in use & you dont want none going on the pads / discs

    well done feller.
but what's that crosser in the back with stabilisers on?
you wanna put them on your kwak lol

started doing my storm as well but cba taking pics til it's done (not much to look at) ... just got fairing, tail & tank off atm, will rub it all down in the week for respray in merc glacier white

Pretty much kitted out in the garage pal tbh :shades:

The copper slip has now been removed pal, put some on the threads as they get hot and then become a tw*t to get out. All torked up now, waiting for the Hel braided hoses to arrive.

I want to take the rear swing arm off, so I can get it powder coated, whta is the best way to support the bike. To enable me to get the bloody thing off.

The front forks need to come off as there are a few stone chips at the low end, may just touch it up.

I am also under way with fettling the exhaust, should be nice and shiney once I have done.

Painting them the same colour pal, just want to freshen the bike up a bit mate, probably get away with touching up the forks. But the swing arm will have to be taken off and powder coated.

Do all this to it then I will probably drop it on one of the trackdays next year Lol. Then I have to start again :banghead:

if ya powder coatin the swinger m8 it,ll look great in black,be carefull when puttin back on coz sometimes the powder coatin blocks the holes slightly making the spindle ect a bit of a pain to re insert

support the subframe from above m8, i used heavy duty ratchet straps on mine, hung off a beam in the garage loft hatch.

ok, that;s the front end in the air but you get the idea!

front wheel on your stand, back wheel off obviously - that'll take the weight off the shock & the rest is easy.
check first if you need a special tool making up - i think you do for the swing arm nut - like a socket with a bit cut out. - someone here might have one
while it's off it's worth drilling & tapping a grease nipple either side for easy maintenance on the s/a bushes.

If your powder coating the swing arm get ya fork legs done at the same time, if ya want them refurbed with springs to suit your weight I have an account with Maxtons, you can get ya rear shock done or even better invest in one of their trick ones.

Ask around Maxtons are awesome & make suspension for thousands of racers all over the world.

Cheers Daz,I will have a think about that pal.

Not good really as my bill keeps on rising at the moment.

I need to take the wheels, swing arm and forks to the powder coaters once the forks and swing arm are off. Although I might paint them all at my mates workshop.

    What do you all think?

    Powder Coating or Paint.

By the way I want the swing arm to be the exact colour it is aswell as the forks, wheels are going to be black with green rim tape should look good.

R & G bung kit has just arrived, last job that. Not looking forward to drilling the fairings.

Anyone got any carbon fibre sheeting?

    Fnaaar Fnaaaaaar

oh, btw... did you manage to get that sprocket nut off????
thought u may find this convo of use....

    quote:
to get mine off i needed my dad standing on the rear brake lever, bike facing the wall so it couldnt bolt forward, then a 6foot scaffold pole and a quick snap to get it loose

    reply:
if it's that tight, drill it off.
few small diameter holes in the nut and it will deform when you get a socket on it.
obviously you will need a new nut like...

    reply:
I remember once I put a plank of wood through the rear wheel to lock it, and I snapped it with the force req'd.

    reply:
currently iv tried loosening the nut with a large breakerbar with a 2metre steel tube on the end and all i suceeded in doing was bending the tube... so then i raided a mates garage and pinched his airgun this combined with a blowtorch and the nut still wouldnt budge! i was going to use the good old trustee black and red until those of you reminded me of the geerbox seal which would be mullered by the heat so im down to two options later this week im going to head over to a couple of hgv workshops and get one of them to give it a go with the 1" hi torque gun failing this im just going to cut it off and try not to f*ck the thread in the process!

    reply:
From: benny hedges00:35 To: Crazy Steve (NINJAA) you do realise it's a left hand thread don't you?

Are they hard to do. And do you think its worth doing the master cylinder at the same time its all off.

They are pretty easy to strip down and clean pal, basically I just reverse engineered them.

Regarding the rear spring I would just rub it down and paint it using a plasic type paint, as it will flex with the spring. Not sure if powder coating would be suitable.
