wont be stranded mate, the bikes in a thousand pieces atm and im not rushing to build it.
just thinking of getting you sorted - if the reg's gone it could fry the battery, ignition, genny etc.... and leave u stuck in the middle of nowhere!

Most hondas have the same plug arrangement.
If you look on ebay for honda reg rec you should see a few.
The later cbr125 one fits. just make sure it has cooling fins.
I couldnt find one when mine went so i stuck an R1 one on and modified the wiring.

well update, i bought a multimeter and a new reg/rec. the battery seems good but something in the charging system is not right still. when i tested the voltage putting the revs to 5000 it was reading only around 13.5 at best. in my cb500 haynes manual it should be 14 to 15.5 @5000. looks like im in for a wire search test. never done this before so im trying to read up where i put what and what setting i use for the multimeter! any help appreciated. also trying to work out how to test the old reg/rec off the bike to see if it was knackered.
ive got a feeling with the bike being a 97 theres a rusty or loose wire somewhere, i know i have to test the ends of the wire where the plastic clips are put need to find out the colours and precedure, i.e ignition on/off live on first then negative?? bit lost with all this but i guess im learning!!

just re charged the battery of the bike and used the multimeter. its reading 12.75 for a 12v batterry. the haynes manual says a fully charged 12v battery at 20c should be over 13 and discharged 12.3??
what do you think im thikning the batteries good based on this?

Battery good at 12.76v, anything above is surface charge.
The main point is wether the battery can maintain the voltage when using the starter. Expect a drop, but shouldn't drop below 8 volts on average.
As a test put the head light on for 30 seconds then turn everything off and recheck the battery voltage.

righty, put it back on reading 12.59 ish, then put lights on for 30 seconds. turned it off checked battery still above 12v. then turned it on got it warm got revs to 5000 and it read 13.59. haynes says it should be 14-15.5. so whats everyones thoughts? is that ok? seems to show its charging then and it started better after i was farting about with it off and on. after all that i turned it back off and still reading around 12.25. maybe before i put on the new rec/reg i drained the battery a bit messing. its been on charge at work on my optimate so all being well it will start nice later on and tomorrow morning! otherwise i got more fault finding :banghead:

ok so i got it home and re tested the battery, 12.57 whilst turned off. put it on and got it to 5000 and it hit 14 which should be perfect so touch wood if it starts in the morning problem solved and i can play out again!!

Seeing as you've said its an old bike why not cleanup and lub all the connections on the charging cicuit photograghing them first and checking the colour coding, can't do any harm, think it highly unlikely you've got a broken cable ,at least then you will have removed one future problem!

thanks much appreciated i just tried it this morning and it started with one touch-yay!
i also tightened my chain the other day and i think its getting uneven wear as it was tight in some parts than in others. after i tightened it again one part had no play in it except for a few mil but after using it for work yesterday it seems to have even itself out again! hopefully thats another issue sorted until i can change the chain and sprockets!! might actually get out on it!
