Best to give them a ring mate because I'm not sure what the set up is in the midlands.
We work 2 shifts, earlies and lates.
    Early shift starts 0630 till 1445 mon/thurs friday it's 0630 till 1330.
Lates are 1445 till 2300 mon/thurs Friday it's 1330 till 2030 so no half days for us lol just an early dart, we are paid 37.5 hrs p/w.
Our pay is weekly, I'd presume you'd have to work a week in hand.
As for your hols, again mate not sure what shutdown periods they have but we get a week at Easter and 2 weeks in July/august.
Best to ring and ask tbh bud, there was all new rules and regs brought in for agency employees by the government.

Ok, I have accepted the job, and start on the 6th Feb, 37 hrs per week, ongoing temp contract, if you remain on manpowers books for 12 months, and providing high level of attendance etc, then they said could be taken on by JLR as short term contractor, although not sure what that means? Anway I am hoping things go well :)

    Hi
I'm trying to get my husband into halewood, loads of talk about them taking on more staff, but every time I ring manpower they just tell me to call back in a couple of weeks and keep checking the website. Any help or info please.

Do manpower actually pay you as opposed to JLR? I have read on the net that there are special rules for agency workers in relation to tax an ni being deducted from wages? Also anyone working for them had any issues around the new laws that came into effect on the 1st October for agency workers as i have also read that they can get rid of you after 11 weeks as after 12 they have to pay you equal rates to permanent employees??

    Thanks

    Hi Guys,

I have just received a call from Manpower who have invited me in for the maual assesment day on 27th Feb 2012. I did a quick search through google to see what I could find and came across this post. Some great and very usefull info here. Just a question for rickster and any one else that has been on the manual assesment day; what did your day consist of? What type of assesments were there? Or any thing else that you can mention about the day would be a very very big help. I have ben waiting to hear back from manpower for over a month and I'm really looking forward to hopefully getting the position. Any info would help me a lot. thanks in advance :)

p.s. The assesment is at the Solihull plant in Birmingham

I've just accepted a job offer at Solihull after passing the tests. I won't go into detail about the manual assessments as that would not be fair to others. You have 2 manual tests which are demonstrated to you first, then you attempt them with full written instructions to follow - don't worry it's easy enough, just follow the instructions to the letter. If you pass they will be in touch within 14 days to invite you in for an interview and drugs screening. Good luck fella :)

As above 'newstarter', its not fair to spill the beans on the test, but its not difficult, just remember to listen carefully and and do as they do, and you will have no worries, good luck!!!

I know a lad working for Jaguar at Castle Bromwich through Staffline agency and they get rid of him every eleven weeks then take him back on but have been told things are better at Solihull (fingers crossed) and we get paid more than him. See you there rickster :)

    • hi ive just been researching and stumbled across this thread! very useful...following on from the above posts ...ive been invited for a manual assesment next week...on the confirmation email it says it should be around an 1hr but allow for 2hrs and arrive 15 min before the start, i was advised not to where jeans ..comfortable casual wear so no suit tie job then...the lad on the phone suggested tracky botton and trainers!!
    • if there are 2 tests can any one tell me roughly how long they are each..and will there be a face to face interview aswell or just the test?

I think the eleven week thing is due this new law passed last October where agency staff get similar rights as staff working for the main company (in this cas jag land rover), onve they have done 12 weeks continuous employment, this way they save loads, did some googling on the matter and although what the agencies do is not illegal it is not looked upon kindly by the government!! Anyway I did ask the question when offered the job as to how long the 'ongoing temp contract' is, all I was told was that if they keep you on for 12 months then jag have to offer you a contract with them by law, and that again is a temporary one, think they are reluctant to take on permanent staff? Also with the 11 week let you go scenario what some agencies do to get round paying more after 12 weeks is to take you on with them as permanent with the agency themselves this means no same rights as jag employees, again very sneeky!! I hope your right about solihull being better than castle brom and staffline, could you tell me what they said about solihull and have they been there continuoulsy for more than 11 weeks??? I could not be in a position of working 11 weeks, being let go then coming back a few weeks later??

The lad at Castle Brom has heard through the company grapevine that temp workers at Solihull get a better deal but thats all he can tell me. I think given the fact that the hourly rate is more at Solihull it's more than likely that Manpower will take us on as "permanent staff" as rehiring staff every 12 weeks or so can't be good for morale. I've called Manpower a couple of times to clarify this but as usual I just keep getting through to the answer machine.
If I hear anything else I'll post it up.

Thanks for that, have to say am a little bit concerned about this 12 week thing though, what does your mate mean a better deal? can he not find out if any manpower workers at solihull have done 12 weeks continuous? Morale wise, not sure if thats a concern for them, but then who knows what the remit is to them from Jag land rover, they want the cars made, hence putting out 1000 jobs or so, hopefully all will be ok and can look forward to doing a min 12 months and being taken on by jag themselves.
