    Hi,

I know this post is old, but I have just applied for a job at the Solihull plant through manpower, it says temporary ongoing, passed online assesment, and just done manual assesment at the plant, waiting to see if I have got through to interview stage, my only concern is it's temporary, no details on length of contract etc, are they likely to be 6 months then get rid? I need more security than that, I need to know the chances of becoming a JLR employee from it, I have no previous experience of production work and to be honest was suprised I got this far!! and ideas?? or advice??

Hi mate, seen they were looking for staff on the bottom of my wage slip this week.
I don't have an honest answer to your question bud, but some of the lads in our place who started with Manpower have now got Jaguar contracts, but those are only temp jag contracts. As far as I am aware Jag are only allowed to keep you on their temp contracts for 12months then they have to offer you a perm position.
I presume there must be a new product being built there, as long as it sells you'll be in a job!
We can't get enough Freelanders and Evoques out of the door in our place and the future looks good for Halewood.
It's upto you mate at the end of the day, I don't know what your position is, what pro's and con's would sway your decision into taking a job with them?
The line jobs are'nt the best, very repetative but the money is spot on but so glad I don't work on the line anymore
I started with Manpower in '06 and managed to get a temp Jag contract but with the global banking crisis in '08 there was 140 of us who got laid off, they said at the time they'd be intouch if anything came up and true to their word they did. I went back on a full Jaguar contract last July, back on my old line job wierd!!
The company were internally advertising for experianced mechanics for the Evoque, put me name in, passed the tests and interview and haven't looked back since. Training is spot on, got to finish my college training after christmas the a few courses on air con ect then I can get the extra pay ect.
What I am saying is if you did take the job, and did get temp Jag then you can apply for all types of jobs mate, you wouldn't believe some of the jobs you can do in the company, and the training is the best anywhere.
I'm looking at applying to be a maintanence engeneer next year, 3 yr degree tho :(
Let us know how ya get on, and good luck whatever you decide. :)

Thanks for the advice, I guess before anything I need to get to the interview stage, stage 1 was online, stage 2 manual assesment at Landrover, not heard anything since then and that was Friday. So the interiview is what holds the next stage for me, if I don't get that far then at least I had a go! There are pro's and con's like most things, I work in retail at the moment and it is permanent and I guess more secure, and even as a manager not as well paid as the JLR job. But I do fancy a change after 17 years of supermarket work, and this sort of thing does interest me, and the posibilities of working into different roles as you say sounds so appealing, obviously the con is the temp contract, the economy is a bit grim, and you never know what is around the corner even though asia etc is the main importer of these cars things change, and I would hate to be laid off after say 12 months, in this climate mega hard to get another job, anyway lots for me to ponder if I get to the interview stage, thanks again for the reply, and I will let you know how I get on.

Some good news, I have the interview tomorrow (30th), it's 3 hours long!!! Anyone tell me what it consists of for this amount of time, they have not told me the days setup other than a random drugs test, and at the end a presentation of the training should you be successful, I don't want any hints or tips as that's cheating, just some idea of the day and what to expect??

    Thanks

As far as I know you'll do some tests mate, like looking at a vehicle build sheet and answering questions, assembling some small parts to process within a set time and they'll ask you questions on how you can improve the process i.e. the tools they'll give you will be duff, so there's an answer lol then I think its an interview. No biggy mate tbh. They'll be looking for speed and can you follow instructions to the letter, its all to do with quality mate. When you do the assembly test, make sure just do it exactly how they show you, and when you finish using a tool there will be a shadow on the table, be sure to place the tool back inside the shadow, if that makes sense? i.e. don't put 'em in your pocket or hold them in your other hand.
    Good luck!

Thanks for that, I have done that bit last week, today was the interview and drugs screening, all ok I hope!! Just waiting to see if successful now, what I do want to know though is as the job is temporary with manpower, how long is temporary? I read somewhere on the net from someone who worked at the halewood plant start of November via manpower, and has now been laid off as part of a total of 200 people? I guess what I would like to know is on a scale of 1-10 whats the chance of a permanent position? I assume manpower only do temp jobs so permanent would need to be with JLR? I also guess the length of contract depends on how well you do, and the order books!! although things look good it would seem on that front with cars selling well. The reason I ask all this is I am in a permanent job now, need a change and this sounds an interesting job, potentailly with chance to progress and learn new skills? But realistically don't want to go to manpower told its ongoing then be laid off after 6 months!! As I have heard mixed things about manpower, but so far they seem ok to me?

Sorry there is a lot in here which you may not be able to answer, but just throwing it out there

    Thanks

I have passed all interviews etc, and was offered a position on the 30.12.11, they wanted me to start on the 23.1.12, however i have to give 4 weeks notice in my current role, which means a start date of the 30.1.12! They asked me to confirm this and call them back, which I did, but only got through to answer machine (guess they must have finished early!) I hope they will be ok with this or are they stringent with the start dates? Anyway what I would like to know is, how many hours a week is the full time job?(production line), I also heard it's a half day on a Friday? working for manpower do you get holiday pay entitlement? Monthly or weekly paid, and do you have to work a month or week in advance before getting paid? the job is £11.40 per hour, plus shift allowance, what are the shift pattern times? I know it's a lot of Q's but any help with these would be great!!!

    Thanks
