Only the bush to the pin is sealed by the O ring, the roller to the bush is NOT sealed that is why you need to lubricate a chain. Cleaning helps to clear old congealed lubricant that can cause rollers to seize. If a roller seizes it wears both the sprocket, as it can't roll accros the surface, and the bush at the impact point this is a primary reason for chains snapping. Always check all rollers are free to turn. Diesel can damage O rings with prelonged exposure by making them swell WD40 will not.
I use diesel too for motorcross chain (leave it to soak then scrub it) but it doesnt have o-rings so couldnt advise there.

Job done Was surprised how much divination there is with new sprockets and chain regarding tight spots. I though it would have been very even at any point. I'll retest it tomorrow after the run in period.
