i was wondering how long that would take to be pointed out haha.

my suggestion @Connor Jardine is to stop tinkering with it until you know the actual problem. let a mechanic properly diagnose it rather than just throwing out ideas to you of what might be up and look for something fuel injected with an electric start in the meantime :p...at least the 20 minutes of kick starting the bastard is good exercise for you ;) haha

Think its fair to say you been well and truly raped there mate. Try to keep looking up, take it on the chin and learn from the mistake. Get the bike sorted and look after it. Problem was it looked and seemed fine, its only when we looked into it more we seen how many problems it actually had

in all honesty bob it sounds like theres not too much up with it,the little hondas are usually very reliable, and as soon as someone looks at it who knows what there doing, the bike in my opinion can soon be fixed;)

Put in a new plug fired second kick choke on half still has trouble idling doesn't really have trouble idling when choke on full (this is when warm) I'm not fidling round with it at this point just just thought I'd give you guys an update.

Good that you have got it started at last.

Are you sure the choke is on, what position is the lever in? It shouldn't run without having the throttle open a fair bit when the choke is on full.

When the choke is in the down position it won't start at all, middle I can get it too run with revs and, full being at the top it will pretty much idle on its own with a few little rough spots, so with choke in the middle i can get it running and keep it there but id have to keep it reving at lights. Which in my eyes is bad

    Think thats massively unfair myself.
Hes bought a used bike (off a forum member?).
If the seller knew it had issues and said nothing then thats one thing.
If its simply an old bike that needs a few bits then either buy it and sort it or dont buy.
Its a bold statement to say someone on here deliberately screwed him over.

I got mine off a Forum member mate and it didnt come without its problems, cost me a small fortune ontop of what i paid for it to put it right... Not saying the lad Connor bought his off knew it had the issues alls im saying is hes probably glad he got rid of it when he did now he knows it has problems.

no if its clean its ok, if it was my bike the 1st thing i would do is check the jets to see if there not blocked, then see if the slide needle is the right height,in the slide is what is called a needle at the top that is a number of grooves and in one of them grooves is a little circlip that you use to adjust the needle height to change fuel flow through the main jet,now i dont know if its been mauled with in the past and some one has changed the settings, you may be able to find the original position of the circlip on the net to see if it has been moved, now with you being a novice i dont expect you to jump in and sort it but given time you can learn such things

My mate Carl sorted all that for me he said the carb is fine everything is how it should be... Being somehow who knows what he's doing that's good enough for me. Haha so it must be the points something in the engine seising up I'm thinking.

The last time I had trouble getting the bike going it was tracked to dirty points but that was after it had been standing for a while. I went through a lot things to track it down including changing teh coil and condenser and the spark plug cap because the spark wasn't there. A quick spray of WD-40 and a light rub with a small file or piece of fine grit sandpaper on the faces of the points would sort it. They have been gapped correctly following the procedures detailed in the Haynes, it is a fiddly job to get the steel screwdriver through the magnetic flywheel and onto the points lol! Tiny adjustments make a huge difference in the running of the bike so tread carefully, it took me hours of fine tinkering to get the points to open at the right place.

I will say though that I sold the bike in full working order and did a fair amount of work prior to putting it up for sale to get it in good working order. Even though it had been standing most of the year it was running perfectly for the past month before I sold it as I put a new plug in and cleaned the crap out of the carb and tank. I am glad it is gone, not because of any problems with it, but because I had no use for it and it was taking up valuable space in my mum's garden and I wanted the money for a holiday next year and am happy it has gone to someone who will use the bike properly.

This is all I will say on the matter. It was sold in good faith on my part and this running issue was unexpected by both myself and Connor. At least I have tried to help is some way by dispensing advice from my personal experience with the bike from stripping and rebuilding the top end and learning about its foibles that I have dealt with the best I can.

So you mate Carl, sorted the carbs and he knows what he is doing ..thats a big plus,, so why is it not going then can carl not have another look and put you and us out misery?

I'm pretty sure its only something very small and a competent mechanic should sort this easy
