Looking Good Fella..... Don't know if it helps, but current flavour of the month with 'Cafe Racer' builds is to bin off the side panels and move the battery/battery box, air box and wiring etc etc for that minimalistic look, as in.....
Cheers mate! Yup the side panels, air boxes and battery have been binned! I'm running 32mm Amal mk1's with velocity stacks so there was no room for all that shiz anyway. I want the carbs in view if that makes sense to you mate
Ok so managed to get the motor mounted back in the frame yesterday, made up now I've got some free space on my bench, and it's starting to look a bit like a bike now, compared to how it was when I bought it. Still got loads to do though Will now get on with rebuilding the forks and wheels. Think I'm going to re wire the bike while it's up on the bench, I'm waiting for my electronic ignition to arrive from the U.S. and I need to source a mini speedo and rev counter.
I spotted some cable driven ones last week, but can't for the life of me remember what website it was haha
I think you need something like these which look 'period'... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TRIUMPH-T...e_Parts_13&hash=item56513ad431#ht_1822wt_1170
Completely forgot you had this project going, so just read the whole thread from start, and really impressed with how it's looking now mate. Can't wait to see the finished article. If you don't mind me asking, what sort of ball park are you looking at with budget? Only ask as my little fella has finally started to show a bit of interest in bikes and think he'd really enjoy something like this
Thanks Dave, I am aiming to have it rolling and running by Christmas and hopefully I should be out riding by spring/summer next year mate
Thanks Spikey, that's one of the reasons why I bought it the eldest boy wanted to get his hands dirty but he's nowhere to be found now lol, typical teenager!! I have kept a detailed log of how much iv'e spent and the time iv'e put in to look back on. The bike cost £315 plus I had to pay someone to move it for me. As it stands now iv'e put around £1200 into it mate, I have budgeted around 2/2.5k to get her upto a decent standard so she can be ridden. Don't forget that I have done most of the work on the bike, so you'll also have to budget for things that you can't do like shotblasting, re-chroming ect. The thing is that she's going to be an ongoing project, as funds allow in time I would like to have a bespoke aluminium tank and seat unit made for it, then I will upgrade other parts like the suspension ect. What are you thinking of mate?
Looks good, how long have you been doing it so far? I bought a bit of a wreck last year to build a streetfighter, I know what I'm aiming for but all I've done so far is build up a pile of bits to go on it, best excuse I can come up with for not doing is is I've no room in my garage. I should have a clear out but there's nothing I don't want.
Don't bin anything mate, trends change! A few years from now you may want to return the bike to original condition for sentimental reasons or have a buyer willing to pay over the odds for a clean, tidy example with all the correct hard to find bits. I've been watching your project with interest too, I really need to get a house with a decent sized garage!
If you haven't found a mini speedo yet, have a look at an "Acewell" had one in my custom mini, small, very stylish and displays everything....
