I think most people would happily serve the time to protect their house n family. Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
Some cops are spot on with this. An old friend of mine lived with his elderly nan since being a small child. After moving away he found out some scrote had been in the house twice in two weeks. The little scumbag made two more mistakes. 1) he came back for a third go 2) he didnt see tony waiting in the front room. Tony used a bit more than reasonable force, oh and a nice heavy bar! Upon the police arriving tony held his hands up and admitted to laying in wait to intentionally attack this shite. After a short conversation with the officer the official statement read how tony had been asleep on the couch and had woken to find a man armed with a bar in the house. A scuffle ensued and tony ended up with the bar, and had to use it to defend himself. No arrest No case for cps to dismiss. Ace.
Think he must have used alot more than Reasonable force. A quote few years back "Householders can kill burglars and not face prosecution as long as they use only "reasonable force" the Director of Public Prosecutions" said. It was also quoted that only 11 people had been prosecuted in 15 years, one case of which a burglar was tied up ,thrown into a pit and set alight. So typically if you were to be woken in the middle of the night and your wife and kids were still asleep and you attacked him with say a golfclub or lump hammer (obviously very hard and once) and he subsequently died, THERE would be no case to answer. There is still far to much confusion on this issue!
I think it is fair of me to say that the vast majority of the people I work with would not be happy carrying a firearm. As for you second question, I don't think that there will ever be a universal backing as there are too many different scenarios to take into account.
That depends. After my bike got nicked I was talking to an ex copper who said you need to be careful. If you sleep with say a baseball bat by the bed then he reckoned that is pre meditated. If you had been fixing the door and had a hammer handy, different kettle of ball games. That quote about setting them on fire in a pit made me smile. Remember the guy that was caught once and crucified to a farm gate? Guess you must be unlucky to burgle a complete phsycopath! Good though.
I accept that officers opinions may differ in other areas. In relation to the use of force the law requires that it is reasonable in the circumstances and proportionate. Unfortunately this creates a massive grey area and there within is the problem. What one person deems reasonable and proportionate, another may not.
Id happy meet in the middle and carry a taser round. Think I'd enjoy zapping some gobby tosser who nearly knocks me off the bike
Unfortinatly using a taser is covered by the same rule. Used improperly you could be in the shit. Sent from my GT-I8190N using Tapatalk
Yeah if you fail to zap em they might kick your head in. Or in true winter biking style the battery is flat when you get round to using it ha ha
You can't defend a blatantly failed policy by saying "but it might have happened worse anyway". As a knee-jerk reaction to an awful event a course of action with nothing more than gutter press logic behind it was undertaken that was materially unfair to a minority group, in the name of protecting the public. It failed to achieve that objective, succeeding only in hurting law-abiding and responsible enthusiasts who were victimised for a cheap political newsbite.
I can't see how putting more guns in people's hands can ever make things worse. I'm sure that the government has the resources to vet everyone throughly and the police have ample time to make spot checks to ensure that everyone is locking it away properly. What could possibly go wrong? Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
Not defending anything. There will never be sufficient data to prove it one way or another. You would need a clone of the uk without the ban to compare.
Well if you shoot into a block of solid iron what the hell do you expect? Potential Darwin Award candidate - right there.
Can someone answer this. Before the gun ban, what was the criteria to own a handgun? Did I have to be a member of a club? Where could I use it? Could I for instance hunt with it if I so desired?
