I was planning a few bits for the zxr over the winter months, but now it has been stolen and recovered, it has kicked my arse into gear to do a few more bits, so I will chronicle the changes here. I need the bike for next spring as I am going to Le Mans for the 24 hour bike race.
Here is the bike as I before I started stripping it:

A bit of a dog, but hasnt missed a beat for me in the year I have had it. I fitted new lines to the brakes, a zx636 front master cylinder and 6 pot calipers to it within a few months, but that has been it so far.
Here is the bike as I started stripping it after it was recovered:

I will be powder coating the rear subframe and remaking a few of the brackets etc in ally to try and drop a bit of weight off the bike, so let it begin!

I have these yokes and forks fitted to my RGV at the moment, but have decided they would be better on the ZXR. I have an Aprilia front wheel and fully floating iron discs to go in as well, so I need to get a new stem made and then spacers made for the wheel and discs. I should be able to mod the wheel to take the ZXR speedo drive as well.

On the rear end I have a zx7r shock linkage which should help with the harshness of the shock, the dog bones and linkage are a different length and are meant to stop you shaking your fillings loose. I have also got a gsxr 1000 shock to fit in. It has a lot more damping adjustment as well as ride height adjuster. It is supposed to be a straight swap, we shall see!

Since I dont carry pillions, I have made an exhaust hanger and done away with the boat anchors that carry the pillion pegs, over a kilo of weight off the bike. Pics to follow.

Here is the hanger. It needs a little bit of finishing and cleaning up. I cant decide whether to anodise it, polish it or have it powder coated.
I have also acquired a new LED rear light. It has the indicators incorporated in it, but I am not sure about the legality of them. I can always fit mini indicators for the MOT.

depends on how much you're planning on using it, to whether you polish it or not. If its only coming out in good weather, polish it, if not, personally i'd get it anodised.

As for the rear light, it won't pass an MOT without separate indicators, but they don't bother the police that much

I have acquired a set of RSV Mille wheels for the bargain price of 100 including postage, so they will be fitted to the bike. Luckily they use the same size wheel spindles and will only need new spacers to be made up for them. Part of the reason I wanted them was for the 5 spoke wheel design and the fact that they have to be lighter than the anchors that are on the bike a standard and also that I have a floating rear disc already made for the rear wheel:

I will have them powder coated black once I have made all the spacers required and made sure everything fits properly.

I decided to do a bit to the bike today. There is a fairing mount that bolts to the front of the engine behind the exhaust, that has one of the welded nuts missing and so someone has just put a normal nut on it, but it is a pain to tighten up. I thought I would take the bracket off, weld a nut on and have it powder coated with the other parts, but one of the rusty bolts that holds the bracket on snapped as I tried to undo it. :banghead: So this meant I had to remove the rad to drill the bolt out and then discovered that one of the mounts on the rad is missing. So now I have to make a bracket for it and have it welded to the rad. I decided I had done enough damage for one day and didnt bother drilling the bolt out, I will leave that for next weekends fun and games. I knew there was a reason I didnt like Kawasakis.

I got round to doing a little bit of measuring today. I fitted the discs and drew the caliper on acad. Not too much to do to get the wheels to fit. I will have to make a carrier for the brake caliper and will design that this week, luckily we dont have much work on at the moment so I should be able to slip that job in soon.

No. Once I have made sure everything fits as is should, I will have them powder coated black along with a few other parts I have. I think I will take the swinging arm out and have that powder coated as it is not in good shape, with a lot of scratches.
I made the new rad mount this week and had one of the guys at work weld it on for me, so that is one job less to do. I will rub the rad down and give it a coat of paint to tidy it up when the weather improves. I did do the rad guard this week but the finish is a bit flat, a little cold in my garage for painting at the moment I think.
I am changing the design of the chain adjusters this week and will make them up.
