Got an R125 at the end of March. Since insurance is so expensive I'm going to be keeping for at least a year. Hopefully I'll upgrade to a ninja 250R next April if I get rid of my L-plates. Since I'm keeping it so long I'm going to look after it and make it my own. I imagine most people just get a 125 as a temporary thing until they can get bigger but I'm happy enough with it for now. So here is my little progress thread Bought the bike: Gave it a decent wash a few days later. Changed oil/coolant etc just gave it a service: 5/5/2012 - Full engine rebuild under warranty & Yamaha service @ 7631 miles 23/5/2012 - Bought a few little goodies (valve caps & Oxford tax disc mount), removed tacky stickers. Also dropped it today but it only landed on me (lol) so no damage Got some (hopefully) nice upgrades coming in the post so I'll probably have some updates by the weekend Up to now I haven't done much but I got big plans for my little bike
Is this the bike that had all the metal in the engine? I remember the thread but cant remember whos bike it was.
Nice looking bike mate. You're not the first person I've heard of that's had to have an engine rebuild after a few thousand miles. I'm wondering if there's something in the R125 engine that isn't quite right?
same engine that's in the YBR, except this one has uprated bits on it (Like an actual ECU, and not a silly little box that I can't mod ) The R125's can also be tuned quite a bit. Jazz and I used to be members on the R125 forums, and there was a full board of threads of modifications that can be done to the bike (Such as increased airflow, RAM Air, Power Commander and the malossi kits)
Yeah its the one with the metal in the engine. Turned out it was 100% user error of the previous owner. Lucky enough the chaps in Wigan Yamaha are awesome so they still fixed it under warranty when they definitely shouldn't have. I got really lucky. Definitely be going to them when I need anything. Still need to send 50 pizzas to the previous owners house too. Any other ideas for the c*nt? (I won't say what he did but even the guys in the shop called him a tw*t).
same wit apprilla 125 apparently need a rebuild after 3 years. an mate i woundnt leave the lock sat on the floor like that keep it up off the ground... a good hit wit a sledgy an it will pop i have dont an oxford one my self
+1 on that one lilday, also in theory i could tuck all the excess of the chain/lock into the inside of the wheel and it may still turn meaning i could wheel it away or ride it away (in a bump fashion). Try and thread it through the swingarm so the wheel wont turn and as Marco rightly says, keep the lock in as tricky a position as possible, always off the ground. Lock it to something as well if you can Like i said in the other thread, i love it. 125's really have upped their game recently with the looks. I think that new ktm 125 looks the bee's too. Keep up the good work and let the previous owner slide, he'll buy a knackered one one day ... what goes around ...
Chain it TO something. Lad at work does this with his wr125. Just a chain through the wheel. we just picked it up and walked it to another car park. they are so light. (dont ask - hes the apprentice!)
haha Usually I have 5 locks on it, all off the floor. One of them is an almax & ground anchor I just locked it like that because I got to work late and had to run in xD Also - Carbon fiber wrapping is a pain in the arse! Photos soon as I'm finished...
Update from last weekend: New folding brake/clutch levers in black & gold anodized gold bolts carbon fiber wrapped 4 panels painted 4 panels matte black Gold yamaha stickers Carbon wrapping isn't fun (got a few bubbles and folds - nothing major though). It is hard but worth it imo. I was gonna wrap the whole bike but I painted some - think it would look tacky all wrapped. All done properly with hours of sanding & prepping Wrapping the boomerang (triangle) panels was hard because I had to remove the old wrap stuff first, which had to be scraped off with a blade... The blue isn't staying - I just didn't have time to finish it and I've been using the bike all week. This weekend I should finish wrapping the tail & tank at least. Nose is going to be a pain in the arse haha Blue bar ends & tax disc holder must go. Any offers/swaps for black or gold ones? All in I still have 7 panels to wrap. Tail = 3 pieces Tank = 3 pieces Nose = 1 piece Tempted to get some stickers made to go black/gold like the LOTUS F1 cars, don't think I will though haha
Wrapping in general isn't fun unless you've got a completely flat surface, but that looks really good! When we did the little Ninja a couple of months ago it was a complete pain in the arse and we ended up just doing patchwork on the tail section. I'm just ripping it all off in a couple of weeks though and getting some pain cans and primer from Halfords and doing it that way instead. Good luck! Looking forward to seeing more pics of it.
Looking good in the pics! Is it the carbon effect vinyl, or the real thing? This place does carbon skinning kits, which if done properly, look shed loads better than the vinyl stuff. (worth looking at the how to vid if nothing else! http://www.carbonmods.co.uk/
Its the 3M Dinoc vinyl...just the carbon effect. You can tell a mile off that its not real carbon - but I prefer the matte finish. A guy I know had an R125 with real carbon panels but they look too shiny to me. Personal preference I guess but that site will come in handy when I get a bigger bike
Aye its all good mate, we're just trying to make sure you keep hold of your pride and joy I think it looks smart with the wrap, was wondering why you got rid of the sterilgarda stickers that were on it originally (first pic in thread) ? Also the more i stare at it the more i want to fit a husaberg 650 engine to one ... shame the chain is on the correct side lol
