just wanting to get myself prepared for eventually doing a trackday.

i know i need a leather 1 or 2 piece suit. my leathers dont have hard armoured knee/elbow/shoulder pads they just have soft padding. are these suitable? wots the minimum requirement?

also my Caberg helmet doesnt appear to have any BS/ACU approval marks on it, although i'v checked websites and they are approved. does this matter?

    thanks

your leathers dont necessarily have to have knee pads on them but they do have to attach 360 degrees if they are two piece
if they only have the short zip attachment at the back you may not get on.
I've never seen helmets checked at a trackday but realistically you shouldnt be wearing one without a gold acu sticker on it
I know i wouldnt get on a bike without an acu approved helmet-ESPECIALLY on a trackday !

    Hope this helps !

Read the rules on the website for the company that you are doing the track day for
Break any one of them and if they check they can refuse you to go on track

Like was said, the trackday i did didnt check, but that is just my 1 track day experience

Your safety, i would personally go "by the book"
Rules are there for safety, not neccessary for you to make a mistake, if someone ploughs into you it is the same result. :)

I would recommend proper length boots as well, on the one i did i only had ankle boots, proper bike ones, but only ankle length, When i came off i only had one boot on at the end of it. :)
gravel on toes stings a bit, not to mention the inconvieniance if the bike lands on your ankle. :)

We need a karma rating on these forums. :)

Get yourself a back protector they aren't expensive and are seriously worth it. You will need a gold stickered ACU helmet, as other have said they don't always check but if they do you are off. I nearly got thrown off a FE track day because they didn't like my tyres. Depends how hot the Ops manager is on the day.

thanks 4 ur replies and ur offer digger.

like i said my helmet is meant to be acu gold approved (all caberg helmets are) just hasnt got the sticker. do i just buy a sticker? speak to mmc? or caberg themselves? wud prefer to use this helmet if possible.

so does everyone think my leathers with soft padding will be fine? they fully zip

My leathers are soft padding, not hard plastic, like a rubbery material
I would assume that soft is better as it absorbs the impact, Hard will just transfer the impact indirectly to you anyway.

Fine for what? There is no difference to riding on the road only the road poses more danger. If you come off on the road or track and slide then your leathers should be ok. If you start to get involved in rumble strips, curbs, grids (road), or other things that are not tarmac then your leathers may rip so as I said get a back protector.

As for the gold badge, go and ask MMC why it hasn't got one on.

After reading some ot the answers on here, some members are talking through their arse.

Your helmet doesn't have to have an ACU sticker of any colour!!! some helmets are tested to ECE-22-05.

So long as it looks the part. However, they may well not let you on with a flip front lid or an open face lid?? but that bit is just my bollox of a view, not verified.

Your leathers have to be one piece race leathers, or two piece full zipped around, not the flimsy 8 inch zip at the back. they will look for this. The amount of armour is not their issue, thats up to what you think is safe.

you need motorcycle glove, but the choice is yours, wrist protection is best snd they tend to look for this when chececking your wrist band.

Boots have to be motorcyle boots, end off.

if your doing an MSV circuit you will need to take your driving lisence, if its Anglesey, then youn won't.

for anymore info, then pm me.

enjoy, they are fun addictive and get more and more expensive each year.

Taken from the MSV web site:

    - Crash helmet - all crash helmets worn by riders must comply with current ACU/FIM standards.

they ^^^^^ are not the law, they are but a mere company where we play. The only time that you will see them is at signing in for your licence then for noise test.

They don't own Croft, Anglesey, Mallory. Donington, Rockingham. Goodwood, Castle combe. etc etc.

Your crach helmet has to be legal, safe and in one piece. ACU sticker isn't worth the price of the glue that holds it on, it has no testing standards and does no checking, they just take a fat cheque, then hand over a wad of stickers to the company that just paid them. Facto amundo :shades:

Si, if you go on an MSV track day and they try and knock you back for not having a helmet that adherse to the rules just tell them KoreanBaz said its ok, as you can actually ride with a plant pot on your head if you wish. If they still knock you back then Baz said he will give you you fee back.

Yeah, pretty much, if you get knocked back for not having an ACU sticker on your lid, but other than that its a legal (0n the road in British), allowed on the road by law lid. Then yes i will give you your money back.

Won't even be an areshole about it like gobshites are. :shades:

Baz I got thrown off a track day today for wearing a piece off gaffa tape on my forehead instead of a helmet, you owe me 99. I will expect payment when I eventually bump into you.

  18. koreanbaz

    koreanbaz New Member

In your case, should you have fallen off wearing said gaffa tape, there would have been no damage, you'd be safe. send me the invoice for todays trackday that you got refused from, Then I will happily forward to you 99 loss of money.

Can't say fairer than that. :shades:

This offer won't continue all year though? :x

They only refused him as he had the duck tape over his eyes, he thought he was the long ranger on a bike and not a horse
