Personally i'd use the money the insurers gave you to buy a new bike, could pick up a cbr600 for cheapish pal

I would weld if poss, unless the metal is so thin you can't. If it were a safety item I'd get new.

That part should be a low grade stainless steel so it is worth doing, it can be welded easy enough, only trouble is you'd have to take it off the bike.
It's up to you to decide if you want to waste money on a new one, or go to the trouble of getting someone to weld it for you, it's a pity you're so far away from me or I'd have done it for you, might be worth a look on ebay for second hand one.

Could be easy to weld unless it's very corroded, if it's very corroded, it would be hard to weld and look a mess when done

A good welder would sort that out no problem . :)

That's not a problem to weld that it's mild steel so it's even better. We're you based

Weld it in situ to get the bracket in the correct position, seems easy enough to get to from the side you've taken the photograph.

You may need to remove the exhaust once you've welded the easily accessible side in order to weld the other (back) side.

Depending on the type of welding employed, be sure to remove any connections to the battery terminals if you're applying current for the weld.

You can do it on the bike buy it will cost you more as it's classed as a position weld than if you get it off I can will do it for some beer tokens

It's ok for people to say it's easy leave it on the bike a exhaust is less than 1mm think and it will blow away so quick it's better to take it off and do it that way I should know I am a welder and do it every day and I am coded in it so anyone who wants to tell me how to do my job your welcome to try it and I'll have the last laugh when you have no exhaust left cos it's melted away

"coded in ?" ok fella keep your panties on. it was only a suggestion and not meant to undermine your profession and skill set fella.
No last laughs needed because i can't weld for shit (i have tried) but you would find it funny to see someone else's exhaust get blown full of holes. each to our own and i respect your welding abilities. i am sure i have skills that you can't hold a candle up to also.

I can personally vouch for the captains welding.
He did a fantastic job on an akrapovic y piece for me.
Far better than the original weld from
    the factory tbh.
Which for their kit is some going.

Always good to know someone who can weld - and weld well. i have several stainless V4 exhausts in need of some bracing / cracks repaired.

This has actually given me an idea
perhaps a directory section where we can each identify our location and skills we can offer / share with other members.
