Sprockets?

Right, i'm perfectly happy with my bike as it is (restricted to 47bhp) when ridingbit solo. But as i often take a pillion i've noticed a fairly major difference in pull when i'm 2 up, as a general consensus, would it be a good idea to use a -1 front tooth sprocket to give me a little extra pull?

Ive also been told that if i use -1 front, i need a +2 rear, if someone could either confirm or dispel this i'd appreciate it.

If you go down in the front you need to go up in the rear for more acceleration :) (look at a stunt bikes rear sprocket lots of instand acceleration for wheelies)

Remember though the speedo will be slightly out and you will loose some top end speed.

1 down on the front is a good cheap mod for a bit of extra pick up.
You can change the front without doing the rear.

Many will say you should change chain and sprockets together and that is best practice, but:-
For the price of a sprocket (front or back), it is worth using a healthy chain to get the gearing how you want it.

I know Lefty (on here) went one down on the front and found it a good significant improvement on his old ZX-6R. What he did notice was that the speedo need to be understood, as it ran off the gearbox and was calibrated for standard gear. Therefore the speedo over read.

One tooth down on the front is worth roughly 3 up on the back.

    Have a chat with www.bandcexpress.co.uk
They sponsor many BSB riders with C&S, so they know there stuff.

Yeah i literally just realised that i put -2 haha :palm: Not too bothered about the top end speed, i have no plans to max her out again haha! The wind in umbearable! Wasn't aware of the speedo issue though! Cheers.

One tooth down at the front is the same as three teeth up at the rear on average.
If you were to go minus one on thefront and minus two on the back.. You may as well have just got a rear sprocket with an extra tooth.

You will be happy and notice the difference with a minus one front sprocket.

A minus one front or a plus three rear will correct your speedo too, to the true gps speed that you are traveling (it has in my case and a few others) unless your speedo is driven by the front wheel..

    I run a -2 front and +3 rear.
Im not restricted though, so i don't know what that would feel like with less power?

I rarely see the other side of 100mph, so for me id rather have all the fun within that range. I think it tops out at 135 but who cares? :)

I might be wrong, but i think that the speedo runs off the front wheel. Hopefully it wont be such an issue.

as long as it doesn't run off the box you'll be fine.

Would i be correct in assuming the second wire (ending below the brake caliper) is the speedo cable? [IMG]

I would not worry too much.
Your front sprocket is probably 15 to 17 teeth.
    1 divided by 15 is .0666 or 6.7%
There means where you would have indicated 100mph, now you will indicate 107mph.

Oh that isnt filth....thats the standard pipes that are on the bike, theyre made of cheese!!! Those are as clean as they could be haha! Planning on replacing them as soon as i find somewhere that sells them haha, Dealers seem to be massively overpriced.

the one down front sprocket mod is a great cheap fix for more pick up like Cab posted. Made the Ninja bonkers but loads more fun.

if you go down one on the front you won't really notice much, if any difference, i'd be tempted to go up two on the rear as well.

i went from 16 front 40 rear to 15 front 44 rear on my aprilia and it's great fun. most bikes are geared for emissions, not the real world riding.
