Just wondering if there's any paint sprayers on here who want to give a bit of advice ! I'm debating whether to have a dig at spraying the fairings on my Varadero by myself, or whether to get a paint shop to do it. (Which I'm guessing will cost a bloody fortune!) At the moment they've just been sprayed black with a rattle can, I have no idea of the condition of the paint underneath, but if my suspicions are correct, the paint will be scratched/chipped as I'm guessing the bike was dropped. If it were anything else I was to paint, I'd flat the paint with 120 grit upwards and then use a high build primer to prime the surface, and then spray. But I've never sprayed plastics before and would like it to look decent ! I have a little compressor, and a fairly decent devil bliss spray gun already, which is why I'm thinking about having a pop at it myself. What's the best way to go about spraying it ? Stephen.
I would think the best thing to do for you would be to have a good spy on youtube and then make a decision which way to go about it . thats what I would do personally.
120!!!!! blimey, do it the hard way!! if the paint that's on them is 'ok' then just use a scotch pad on it.
Ask smudger, he does it pal. If you dont mind your loved ones, pets, floors and neighborhood being coated in overspray that is.....
I painted my old bike with rattle cans. 120 is a bit extreme haha I'd work from 600 up really...but if you can't see anything wrong with them now they might just need keying up with a scotchbrite like bloke said. grit depends if you'll be filling but 120 is very harsh
My advice don't listen to anyone here and just do it youtube video help I will give you one but of advance sheet up when you spray as that overspray is a bastard to clean off the floor cupboards well entire kitchen Sent from my C6903 using Tapatalk

Will be having a look on youtube tomorrow, There's alot of conflicting info on videos though. Yep, 120 is very harsh ! I'm thinking of painting rusty metal, :roflmao: The paint in some areas is alright, but it is cracked in some places, I'll take some up close pictures tomorrow to see what you guys think. Yeah, I agree with you there, bit of a brainfart, I wasn't sure whether to remove all the rattle can paint and spray over the original honda paint or just key it back a bit.
to be honest if it's been done with a rattle can you would be best getting it all off, can save a lot of wasted time if it reacts/softens when you paint over it. give it a try with 1200 first and see how it comes off, if it's slow or not shifting try 1000 then 800.
Jack of all trades when pissed lol But seriously you don't need to be a assesser to see Sent from my C6903 using Tapatalk
Do not use 120 FFS! Start 400 at the most course or you'll be sanding scratches out for weeks. What do you need and when for? you supply the paint and I can have it done relatively cheap for you (just got a local contact)
Just go for it, do it yourself, if it comes out shit do it again from what you'v posted you know what to do, and you've got the kit, I did my whole bike with rattle cans and I'm happy ( it's not perfect) with it, and when I decide to change the colour again I know what to do and what not to,
Just remember wet & dry is a rubber...if you fuck up rub it out and do it again. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
