I know we have already met up once but that was along time ago. We are getting close now under 2 months.

We all had a laugh saying that the ride up will be fine but after last weekend especially in shite weather it will ruin the trip.....

Alot of us now want to van it up there & enjoy the bikes then van it home.... I'm open to suggestion's but let me know when everyone is free and we can sort something.

I dont fancy being wet, tired and exhausted again, look what just happend i'm not going through this again.

Why don't we have it on 9th June on the pre Scotland ride to whitby . Going up in a van is a BIG FAT NO for me this is a Bike ride .And the ride up there and the ride back is part of the whole trip for me.

even in mid july the weather in scotland could be torrential rain ! obviously if it is we will play it safe and adjust the routes accordingly . I can do this easy enough . BUT it goes without saying waterproof gear will be needed, a frank thomas aqua pack oversuit etc, it just folds up into a bum bag and you wrap it round your waist

you will need two pairs of gloves, a dry pair for everyday riding and a wet pair to put on when it rains, this stops you getting piss wet through hands .

boots ....i wear goretex boots up there, if you have waterproof ones wear them , if not take some waterproof over boots , I know a rider who wears normal sidi boots with waterproof socks !!! they work fine apparently .

waterprood covers. if you have soft panniers or a rucksack, you need a cover to go over them. whats the point in getting to the B and B and all your gear if piss wet through

Mobiles, you even need a waterproof cover for these. tesco sandwich bags do a great cheap job .

ETC ETC ETC its common sense.

I expected i would get some stick for this but on them roads up there i need to be wide awake and ready. Riding un familiar roads in the wet is bad enough. Riding them when exhausted is going to be a recipe for disaster. Especially when we are out in the sticks.

I think you'll suprise yourself with what you can do... A few years ago we went up to Skye in a day and it rained for most of it... So motorway all the way up to Glasgow.. Its boring as hell, but if you are sitting there at 80, and have a ten minute break every hour you'll be up there before lunch. Then you have the afternoon to go enjoy yourself. The main roads up to Fort William and onto Inverness are really good... Nice and wide, lots of vision... And somehow they make roads really grippy up in Scotland, even in the wet.
