Anyone on here had a go at removing baffles from stock pipes ?

On a stock pipe, they're usually a lot more than just a baffle!

A standard can uses the volume to deaden the sound, the pipe that goes in, while it looks like it should go straight through, will divert inside and look something like this:-

A 'race can' is usually a straight through pipe, which inside the can will be perforated and surrounded with stuff similar to rock-wool. The idea being the rock-wool deadens the sound. A Baffle is inserted to reflect the sound waves back into the perforated section, but also restricts some exhaust flow.

Not exactly, but when I first got the XJ6 I got a long screwdriver and hammered it inside the exhaust. Because the exhaust is under the bike it turns almost immediately after the opening, so the screwdriver went in and pops through some of the internal piping. Gave it a little bit of a deeper tone.

Then I did the job properly and just bought a new can though.

It can be done, few Firestorm owners have done it and they sound well. Just wondered about doing it to my SP as I want to go back to the standard look but not the standard sound.
As you say, I could buy some more aftermarkets but was just curious.
