Smudger i have the same bike as you 96 cbr6 f3

Mine emits white smoke, runs rough when idling and keeps on trucking no matter what happens :)

My thermostat switch failed to, i just wired it into the horn, because i don't use that apart from at mot times :p

And i have worried about HG failure twice but it turned out to be false twice too.. Just over thinking and worrying rather than just getting on with it..

    They go forever these bikes

    What for? There's no need.
Just clean and flush out the system, then refill.

    I concur.
    Don't complicate matters.

I have a compression tester mate, its a car one, so youd have to take the airbox and everything off to fit the probe down the spark plug holes.

But it will tell you if your head gasket has gone.

You can also buy sniffer test kits on ebay which do similar, you just put some of your coolent in and it will tell you if there are any traces of exhaust gasses in it.

Lemmie know if you want to borrow the compression tester!

Ive heard the water pump can allow oil into the water too.. Have a google.. But doing a compression test and it coming back good will put your mind at rest!

At least you'll know what you are working with, playing guesswork doesn't always turn out great! Putting that rad sealant stuff in could make things worse!

I was going to suggest possible leak from lubricant into coolant via waterpump, as the water is only pressurised to about 15psi and the oil will be at 50+psi. On the Triumph triples the 2 systems are separated by a bleed point that will show leaks on either seal but I don't know on the CBR.

I very much doubt that a water pump on the CBR will have a pressurised oil feed to it, it would be splash/gravity fed could be pressure fed through an oil way but once clear of the bearing there is only crankcase pressure pressure. So the oil side of the pump will be at crankcase pressure ie less than the water pressure.
Oil will normally be forced out on start up as crankcase pressure is higher than the coolant, as the coolant warms the pressure increases reversing the flow.

well i dropped the water today and it was a kinda slightly milkey but a very transparent milkey that tells me alley corrosion expected for a bike so old no more gunk, so thats good news then so in can go the coolant on the plus also fitted the new rad switch arrived from china today back ran for 25 mins before temp got hot enough and fan kicked in so a result there
