Well this morning the bus had no diesal in it the mrs thought oh it will start ffs and killed the battery so i put diesal in and had a stupid moment thinking I could jump bus off bike at high revs after a few mins of rev her I noticed temp gauge was going up slowly past half way and no rad fan coming on temp has only ever been slightly over the 1 tenth when riding so i removed rad lid and there's a substance I can only describes as milkey stickey coffee, oh shit springs to mind so i took bleed screw out of water pump and emptied the coolant it was a lovely normal green coolant. So I over filled bottom tank took coolant tube of top rad to bottom tank blew in it hard and milkey stuff out the bottom tank

Experience tells me it's 1 of 3 things

1 rust in the system caused by wrong coolant or its never been changed

2 not having the carbs on the inlet properly

    Or worst fear

    3 headgasket. Failure

Rad switch to turn fan on is dead as i tested it

Anyone experienced. More to give me good news

Check to see if there is any signs of water in your oil.

Oil is fine nice and black. Nice consistency I checked oil soon after which made me doubt head gasket I filled up with water will run it like that for 100 mile then empty and collect the water to see contaminants a lot of Web search comes up with the carbs not bein on proper. Which I know wen I cleaned them cylinder 4 was loose as i didnt have a screwdriver 10 foot long at the time but I've since readjusted carbs and fitted proper

If the bike had old mineral oil in, and you have not cleaned it out fully and put any of these oils in it will do that.

This is the coolant rad cap so no connection with the breather.

Just put rectifier on. Had a spare oil filter in shed and had 2 litres of v-tech semi synthetic 10-40 bike responds a lot better but I put that down to bigger amp increase

If it's the oil cap then they can have a milky residue on the inside of the cap - this is due to any condensation forming within the engine and mixing with oil.
It's a common phenomenon (well in a lot of my vehicles) and probably due to short engine running times causing a build up of condensation - a good reason why you shouldn't start your bike to run the engine for a few mins while it's laid up in the garage over the winter season :)

If the engine oil in the crankcase has turned milky white, well that's an indication of serious trouble :(

For a head gasket/cracked head issue:
    1. Check the coolant that you removed for an oily residue/film.
    2. Smell the coolant, does it smell of exhaust fumes?
    3. Is the bike emitting loads of white smoke?

If not then it could be a build up of crud over time from the pressure release cycles. Clean it up as best as you can and replace with the correct anti-freeze/water mix. Sounds fine to me, so stop fretting and only worry if it's billowing loads of smoke :)

    Be fine.
Its from an era when honda made good engines.
Change the oil as per manual and will last forever.

    Oil in the coolant.

    All above is good advice.
What was the coolant like when you emptied it?
Was it a grey colour is there grey residue inside the expansion tank or just the white?

Not sure how a loose carb can cause this?
Not likely to be the water pump as you would see water in the oil (oil goes tan colour) but if the fan hasn't been working properly heat transfers to the top of the head which can cause big trouble (melted piston crowns being the worst) if mixed with a failed thermostat....oops.
As your doing, re-fil with water run up to temp and check the top hose is hot when the temp gauge shows half way (ish) about 82' to 90'.
See how it goes over a week or so, if the gunk returns then you may be into a head gasket. Engine out for that.

i get white smoke on initial start with choke on full once warm choke off no smoke coolant was green, i dont know when the last time it was properly serviced so maybe its just never had the coolant changed n its life
