Waste of time mate might as well spend the money on getting a progressive spring for it and a service, its your shock that does all the work all the time oem stuff will not do it regardless of what bike its off especially used.

    Dont waste your money woody

You have hit the nail on the head Woody, it all comes down to what the individual is prepared to spend. For me Wilo has bought a cheap track bike to enjoy and learn on, once he gets the bug I am sure he will look to the upgrade to a better bike.

I think that you are going about it the right way, get the WOW's the amount of money you will spend paying the tyre guys to change the tyres over will quickly mount up, plus it would be an ongoing cost.

Get the current suspension setup by Kais and learn to ride the bike, once you have doen that then posisbly look at suspension and all the other bits. My ZX6R that I raced last season did not have any uprated suspension, the only thing I did was set it up correctly for each track I raced at. We got some great results which often saw us finish in front of fully tricked up bikes.

Learn to ride the bike and then move forward, you will love it.

wow thanks guys some real food for thought thanks for taking the time
I know its cheap its deal of the century  , yes all frame and engines numbers there (no V5), long story but i bought it off a guy (not short of a few quid) who bought this as a back up to his number 1 race bike (as well as about 5 other bikes) and never used it and it sat in his garage for a year or two. I posted on a track forum that i had a £1000 to spend on a bike with WOW and he contacted me. He is a genuine nice guy who wanted it to got to someone who would use it and not split it and was not really bothered about the money (he said £600 simply because he estimated £400 for WOW to take me up to my £1000)
Daz the from forks are off a 2001 as they are eaiser to change the front wheel (only 1 clamp bolt)
i will give Maxton a bell for some prices now

Sean you cant set up suspension in a shop no matter what anyone tells you it's a pile of crap, all you can do is spring it for your weight and service it.

Set up has to be done at the track as every rider and bike is different. What works with one will not necessarily work with another, all I'm trying to do is stop people spending money they don't need to, better to save up.

Woody don't bother with the zx shock your wasting your money, just get your shock serviced and sprung correctly then save up for s propper shock. Get a progressive spring from a reputable company like Maxton or kais .

You don't set the shock up to suit the front your shock is the most important part. All the front does is compress under braking and slows down the rebound as you get on the gas so as not to load up the rear and make the bike unstable, obviously it soaks up the bumps.

If you have £400 buy a shock and just get your forks serviced, it's your shock that does all the work and its the most important part of any race bike that's why there so expensive

I would just change the fork oil do a trackday where they have got a suspension specialist like colin who attends the focused events days and see what he says. Get their opinion and take it from there, spring, revalve, new shock etc.

That way you will get the opportunity to try it out and find out what the limitation is? Is it the suspension or something else? I think for most people, especially those just starting out I think theres more gain to be had by improving themselves and getting more experience rather than the bike.

But everyones different, suspension could be the best thing for you but dont expect a magic setup from Colin, Maxton, Kais or anyone else, they will get you a good base setting to start from but theres only you who can set your bike up.

To be honest the ZX10 conversion is widely used within the mini twin paddock.
