Just been trying to get my knee down lately on a quiet roundabout near my house, I've got a lot further since I first started but I'm still nowhere near touchdown  Here is a video of a few attempts, sorry about the camera quality and the camera man! Any help would be most appreciated, I don't think I'm hanging off enough to be honest but don't feel I could hang off any further! Cheers.
really you need to follow someone who can get there knee down so you can see how far you need to hang off.it feels wild at first and as if the bikes gonna fall off the edge of the tyre but one you have touched down you will never forget, plenty of prctice and hang off to the point where the back of your left knee is resting on the edge of the seat, put the ball of your right foot on the right peg and turn your knee out towards the road, just take your time and warm your tyre up properly and lean it over bit by bit untill you get used to diffrent lean angles. and enjoy.
stick it in 3rd-not 2nd.get your arse off the seat-imagine you want the edge of the seat up the crack of your arse hug the side of the tank with your left knee and look THROUGH the corner also move your head as if you are 'looking round a door' it also looks like you are too close to the inside edge of the roundabout, move out a bit and dont 'tip in' to the apex too early try pushing on the bars to help countersteering and most importantly-keep the throttle steady and constant do not snatch on or snap off slowly slowly catchy monkey increase your speed and it'll come !
Thanks, I had it in 3rd to start with but found that if I had it in 2nd it was easier to accelerate into the corner from a wider angle, the roundabout isn't a full circle, there's two straights with a 'U' at either side. Shall improvise!
also skelmersdale is knee down heaven :icecream: ,if you live in skem you were brought up with your knee down  .
Hmm these tips seem quite helpful. Still struggling with the same problem pal, you confidence in yourself and the bike before you start. I may try these things next time im out and its not wet
use someone elses bike that helps a lot. :bruised: try a decent car park like the one opposite burnley bus station on a sunday evening?, that looks ok
try this-get to the point where you normally tip in and in your head say ''one thousand'' then tip in When you tip in push on the handlebars as well as lean as well as hang off-it'll all start to add up and touchdown will occur ! 2nd is not good really for smoothness for your first kd-its a bit twitchy plus the revs are higher which makes your head think your faster than you actually are
Ok here's my 2 pence. Now the video isn't the best as you say but it looks like you are taking the wrong line and are certainly too fast for such a tight line. Take a much wider line and tip in as Crispy says, it isn't about the speed.
Ok let me help you out here, can you afford a track day? If so I will take you around and get your knee down within a few sessions. If not then it's a little bit harder as we will need to find some quite Tarmac. I may be heading into Wales this Saturday with VVTR and I can assure you of some quality knee down action. As for what your currently doing that roundabout or bend doesn't look like a good place to start but one things for sure it doesn't matter what gear your in but you do have to: A, have the balls of your feet or your toes on the pegs, thus gives you both ground clearance and a good purchase to move your body around the bike. B, get your arse off the seat so that on a right hand bend your left cheek is on the right of your seat and your knee is sticking out. C, carry enough corner speed so that you don't simply fall off D, ensure before you try any of this your tyres are nice and warm or again you could have a whoopsy Let me know on the track day or on the rideout.
All the above is good advice fella, the best way to be would to have somebody follow you see your line and then show/help you find a better one for your style, I have loads of time of work mate, so i'm free a lot
A day out practice session somewhere quiet could prove pretty helpful? Just find a quite spot and learn from the more advanced riders (or the ones who can haha)
I personally dont see the biggy about getting your knee down? i would honestly think 95% of people unless on a track day will never need to put a knee down for anything other than saying "Iv had a knee down" i honestly wouldnt push it pal.
Wow, loads of comments! Cheers everyone, I have the balls of my feet on the pegs and have one cheek hanging off already (maybe not enough though). I can't afford a track day at the minute as I've just bought my first house Wales is also a bit far for me mate but thanks for the offer (was you at rivington barn about a month ago with a few other NWB'ers? Someone commented on my friends GS1200 which had 1000's of miles of dead flies on it lol, looks like you in your pic). The main problem I have is finding quiet tarmac that's level without any gravel, grates etc. If anyone is ever near Burnley and can assist, drop me a PM
Of course u can afford a track day, Three Sisters Race Circuit £10 for 7 laps. It may be a tight circuit but u should be able to get ur knee down. I don't worry about getting my knee down on the road.
