Think its 6 to 8 weeks if its not found before they start the claim

Depends on the nature of the claim.

It's generally a myth that insurers won't pay out for a certain amount of time after a vehicle has been stolen. Check you policy - if it doesn't say there is one, then there isn't. Once all of the necessary proceedural checks have been completed, which may take a week or two, there's no reason why you should get paid out then. Whilst the Insurers are carrying these out, they can be agreeing a valuation with you. When my ZX6 was stolen, Hastings Direct sent me a check within a couple of weeks for what they felt was the market value of the bike, which was pretty much spot on, so no complaints.

Like the above poster, there isn't really anything concrete about how long it takes unless it's specified in your policy documents.
I've emailed my friend at BikeSure/Adrian Flux (same people) to see if he can shed any light on it.
I'll put it in here when I find out.

    Cheers pal.
I've forwarded them on and I'll see what I get back.
I'm pretty sure that Flux use a 3rd party for their claims stuff so there might not be too much to go on.

INDEED. ive had 2 stolen. 1 was paid out within a month and i never saw it again.
another i got back and it was fkt & written off & that took about 2mth.

but.... still witing for a settlement from lancs council for writing my firestorm off 2 years ago today.
using sorrymate.com.... initially i was impressed with the way they rang back straight away, took all the details, sent an engineer round to assess the damage etc...

to date ive had no less than 5 different people dealing with my claim, had my claim put on hold while one got married, then again when she took maternity leave!!! :S

they lost the fotos i took, lost the engineers report, lost the invoice for £375 recovery bil and say theyre still waiting for medical records, though they sent me a letter before christmas saying they had received them & the claim should be sorted within 3 weeks.
the council admitted full liability on 11th may 2010.
sorrymate say they will try to get it finalised by june or july.....2012 :/

    i'm not holding my breath....

what first alarmed me was when i looked at my policy when it was renewal time, no claims on my policy were shown (and the bike has never been recorded as written off) but there was 1 claim showing on my legal insurance...
when i rang sorrymate to ask what this was - i spoke to some guy called james, who seemed a bit inadequate tbfh... said 'er. oh, you shouldn't have seen that'

    so wtf?

sorryifkinbotheredmate.com not saying theyre sh*t with everyone, but i am currently less than impressed. a lot less.
they dont return calls, answer emails, letters etc.... too late to now go through my insurance.
as far as they know ive been without a bike & gear for 2 years now & tbh they genuinely dont seem to give a sh*t.

as far as i can see theyve already been paid themselves off my legal insurance so they cba doing any more work....

ive started carrying a little brick wall around with me to talk to......

the more they fk me about the more people i will tell how wank they are & the more forums i will spam warning people not to use them.

just be very carefull when deciding to use a 'specialist bike solicitor' to handle your claim..... you could be waiting a while.
    a Very long while.

The above post makes a very good point.
It's also worth noting that in the event of a claim etc you don't have to use the company that your insurance company gives you.
It's at your discretion so use it wisely!

yes, because you ring your insurance & say your bike's been stolen or smashed up....
they go ZZzzzzzzzzzzzz ok, another one. fill this form in and send it back.
    then they pay you. simple.

you ring a solicitor, they go YESSSSSSSS another mug.
lets see what we can milk out of this one....
then they sipn it on and on and on and on to wring the maximum amount of fees out of the defendant for as long as possible, then most probably - and im waiting for this one yet - they also want a % of the end settlement.

your choice. i know what i'll be doing next time, and i hope you all read this and take it on board.

i know fergus (sorrymate.com owner) is a nice guy and likes trackdays and sponsors a team, but tbh that means jack sh*t when you are sat waiting on a claim for years.
never been a big fan of making people rich at my expense regardless how 'nice' they are.

Vvtr - I'm assuming you were injured in the accident as well as your bike being smashed up and riding gear tw*tted too. In which case, your solicitors should have obtained an interim payment as soon as liability was admitted by the council. The recovery of 'Special Damages' (out of pocket losses) is not dependant upon the progress of the injury aspect of your claim. Jump all over whoever's acting for you. If you're getting no joy, you need to speak with the partner in charge of whoever's dealing with your case.

And you've raised the issue of another common myth - Solicitors don't generally drag claims out to simply make more money - if the claim isn't the subject of Court proceedings, the legal costs are fixed under the Predictive Costs scheme and they receive a fixed amount irrespective of how much work they do. It's, therefore, in their best interests to settle such claims quickly, rather than drag it out. If you're not satisfied with the progress of your claim, you are perfectly entitled to move to another firm.

One final thing - if your claim is over 2 years old, you're rapidly approaching Limitation - 3 years from the accident date.
