A bit confused to be honest. When i start to slow down on the honda bros, especially when i'm in first or second gear, there's a horrible, dry, scraping/clattering sound, it becomes more obvious when i pull in the clutch full. Its had a full oil change Its not the brakes scraping Other than that it seems to run perfectly. Any help would be appreciated.
some v twins make a funny sound, when slowing down ect my duke did it sometimes in low gears what caused it i've no idea??
Difficult with that description. Is there a rubber strip on the top of the swing arm? If this is missing the chain will rattle against it. Check cush rubbers. Check the security of the front sprocket. Check the wheel alignment and rear sprocket carrier bearing. Check cam chain tensioners. Check air filter housing is not loose. Check for other loose parts, tank, seat, battery.
If it helps, the sound is coming from the crankcase...sadly....i'll double check the front sprocket in the morning.
yep ive seen this before on a bike forum ...the culprit was what woody and doof mentioned .a slack change ,banging against the swinging arm ? there should be some type of protective guard, attached to the arm itself. is this the one you have just got from woods? will be covered under a three month warranty, if your unsure pop back with it
Just thought id update you all, checked my front sprocket, its fine, chain is fine. Was baffled, then i decided to finally put new levers on, tightened the clutch cable whilst i was at it, and the rattle seems to have gotten a lot better, might have a play tonight and see if anything else it just a bit loose tonight.
Did some further checking today, and it seems Doofle has come up with the answer! My front sprocket is worn and a tad loose, it wont tighten up anymore, so i need to replace. Now, its a job i dont want to tackle myself, so are there any good bike mechanincs/handymen that can come down and show me how its done? (I'm up for doing it, just need a bit of supervision like) Willing to pay fuel money and bacon butties!
Are you a hundred percent sure that's what is causing the noise? It'd be horrible to replace the chain and sprocket, then find out it was something more serious after your warranty has expired. I'd suggest getting someone you trust with a mechanical mind to ride it and double check, if you are in any doubt take it back, if not then bonus but at least you're sure Live Forever or Die Trying
if i remember rightly, he picked this up trade sale cheep as fook so will have been no warranty given by the dealer.
I'd still check that it's definitely that before spending money on it... If you know for sure then fair enough Look after it, I want it in good Nick in case I ever buy it off ya, haha Live Forever or Die Trying
Not sure of the set up on the bike, but is there a tab washer (one that you bend over the flat of the nut) if this is missing the sprocket will be loose (move in and out). The movement will have worn the inner spline of the sprocket so it would be advisable to replace the sprocket.
Planning on picking up a C spanner this week, going to have a bash myself and pray haha! :nails: Its got one of those eccentric bearings!
