This is the tattoo I got for Naomi, it's her favourite quote with the cancer awareness ribbon behind it , Naomi wanted me to take her to get this and hold her hand cause shes a "big tart" , sadly the day never came so I've got it for her with her initials underneath
Good on ya Scottie Put me down (for sponsorship) You'll love Indonesia, been there twice myself, But never up a 'Stratovolcano' ''RESPECT''
Sounds amazing mate and for a great cause, bet you can't wait. Would say a few trips up and down snowdon is in order before you tackle that bad boy, would be good training you'll be doing the same thing but with less oxygen. I still have alot of kit from my marine days, think i still have arctic stuff aswell. Your welcome to borrow what ever you need mate. If you go up snowdon let us know, but not anytime soon haven't got crampons or ice axes lol....
Thanks for all the input folks it means a lot , TONY has got arm kit for me but greatly apreciate the offer royalwato, Edo thank you mate , Lavinia ill be abusing snowdon an several other baby mountains during my training
As part of your training, get out on a push bike, it'll help stabilise your knees. Knees take a major pounding, especially on the way down hill!
No probs mate, its there if you need it. Have you sorted footwear out yet? defo most important bit of kit.
Don't go on any reccomendation with boots, take half a day to try loads on and do it during the afternoon, your feet swell through the day. I've always got on well with Scarpa but they just happen to fit me well, keep them on for at least 15 minutes in the shop. Make sure you get good socks as well, I used to use smartwool, climbed in Alaska at -55 and kept all my toes.
Good effort as well mate, don't forget rather than the journey to Snowdon you've got the Clwyd hills less than an hour away, even though they're not that big just putting the miles in round Moel Famau and those hills will get you good hill fitness. It'll hurt doing the big one but let's face it, that's the whole point.
That's it mate , ill push my body to braking point and it still won't compare to what Naomi went through I will do this , I cannot fail , I've got the biggest inspiration to drive me forwards
I had lowa's mate, Done so much in them and they never let me down. They have a decent range worth checking them out. Another thing is getting some 'aftermarket insoles' lol, i swear will make those big mountain boots like slippers... As for training, running, cycling its all good but how much of that are you going to be doing? As Phil said there are some big enough hills not so far away, start there and get some miles under you and break your boot's in..
As soon as I can get my boots I will I am skint as fuck I'm paying 100% of my travel and expenses etc so 100% of the donations are for the hospital , pisses me off when people do charity sky dives etc and they raise 2 grand for example but 1500 comes out of that to pay for the skydive!!
Helvelyn in the lakes is a good one to walk. Not sure what the mountain terrain is like that you'll be climbing but there is a sharp edge to descend. Climbed and walked loads in the past. Kat
Outdoor World are OK, but you'd be better having a look in Ellis Brigham on Bold Street in town. They're a lot better when it comes to advice and what really works. Remember your boots will need to last as you'll be doing loads of miles in them. Breaking them in, then all the training etc!
