Based on my fingerprint I'd say 12mm max. It is a total guess though, just based on how the lines look to fit together. vvtr hopefully you're right. I'll just keep checking the oil and keep the RPM as low as possible until I next check the oil. If it was a thrust bearing I'd have thought the engine would be rattling about like f*ck lol Actual size based on my finger: Looks about right.
Not sure. I got more photos here: http://imgur.com/a/gu5Q5 If they help? On another forum they've pretty much ruled out the clutch basket because of how the engine is built. Most likely suggestions right now are: - Thrust Washer - Dog teeth - Maybe even a foreign object some c*nt has put in the oil... Oh yeah and it is NOT magnetic, if that helps.

Have to disagree with the idea that a new engine will have swarf in it, very minute particles maybe. We re-manufacture engines and test oil samples from the engine when it is tested the sample is checked for any metalic compounds, copper is common but to a limit, if any debris is found, the engine WILL be stripped to find the cause. We also build new auto boxes for the military any swarf present will cause the valve plungers to jam and in worst case contaminate the brake rings, should this happen up 40 tonnes of armoured vehicle could be out of control. Every part has a cleanliness spec that it must achieve and contamination controlled to prevent any ingress of debris. Very small amounts of material may be seen but the amount you have would require a full rebuild thats about a normal engines lifetime plus of debris. The bits you have look like a shim, but an alloy one? How hard is the material? If it is a shim/washer of some type it is possibly from the gearbox but it will mean whatever it was protecting is now running against something it shouldn't be, causing more damage till the motor grinds to a halt. There should be some noise telling you that something is wrong. Or it could be something was dropped in the engine in which case it will have done some damage given the heat discolouration and condition of the debris.Which begs the question why and how did it get there? My advice would be to get someone who knows to listen to the motor.
I would not run the bike until you have identified and fixed the issue. That amount of swarf/debris is NOT new engine wear, you say that the debris are not magnetic, is your engine a ally type?
I rode the bike up to Wigan Yamaha last Thursday... Got a call yesterday to say they're fixing it under warranty New piston/crankshaft and a whole list of other parts - sounds like it would be easier to give me a new bike haha. He's said he reckons 10 hours of work and it should be done some time next week. Happy days saved myself £650 for a new engine
Ahhh nice to see a happy end to the story mate ! I'd be asking them exactly what they thought had happened in there when you pick it up, just so you know and also whether there is a chance of it happening again !? Try find out what the part was as well ...
glad to hear you got it sorted! Speaking of R125's, Millennium Motorcycles had to fix this today: That used to be an R125's Piston and rings.
How the hell does that happen? The bike can't be more than 4 years old haha must have been abused pretty badly...
