Right need to get some track days in this year.. Saw the thread about Anglesey however all ive heard is horra-stories about it and think i'd end up thinking about all that so ive decided against it. Just want a bit of guidance/advice Im a beginner and definitely not the smoothest rider about so where should i start and when in the year? Im thinking Oulton around april (ish) and the Donnington (Or similar) around late summer Opinions please
Im thinking of doing donington for my first trackday as i cant do oulton because of my license  just have to persuade my dad to do it aswell so he can drive me down. want to do one realy bad aswell. what class u going to book in
[sub]a bit crap i know guted oulton looks like a realy good track. owell only one year to wait now :neo:[/sub]
Spoken to a friend of mine and he has suggested that donningon would be a great track to start with..... *Runs to find a booking* :flame:
Anglesey is a really good track m8, i would just book it. Dont worry about stuff that ppl say, go and make ur own mind up. What is it that has put u off ?
Talk of cross winds and sudden rain... I know some really good riders (Northwest 200 + wirral 100) that have crashed big there :S
There have been one or two big crashes at Oulton to lol. Anglesey is as good as anywhere for a first TD, get yourself booked on and stop worrying about binning it, just take it at your own pace and you'll be fine.
What will draw 1 rider to a track will put another one off, it's personal choice at the end of the day. Certainly don’t be put off due to hearing horror stories, you would never get on track if you listened to them, esp after some of the huge accidents at Oulton last year & sad deaths on racedays & trackdays. You could go with a track your familiar with so you don't have to learn which corner is next, if that isn't an option then Mallory is a good starting place due to its simplicity. However, the track condition has caught a few people out at Edwinas, inc a good friend of mine, so only go there in the dry. Oulton is more technical than Anglesey, & your right when the weather is bad at Anglesey it's awful but when it's sunny it's brilliant !! Oulton is a fab circuit, one of my dads favourite to race at, but it's a love or hate it track for some. Donnington is mostly long sweeping bends which from what I've been told, awesome to ride, but can catch a few out due to not realising how fast those corners are !! But Nobby is right in the Anglesey thread, get booked in with an instructor, but what line 1 instructor takes, another may use a different one, so listen to their technique advice & fine what works for you.
I agree that Oulton is one of the best tracks I've been on. Rockingham is rubbish. Silverstone is fast but relatively flat so I often misjudged brake points.
Elliott I did my first trackday at Anglesey and loved it. Amazing track with a great surface (ask Nobbylad his ass has been down it with his bike). Don't let any horror stories put you off, I'm sure there are hundreds of these stories for every track in the country. Get it booked, take it at your own pace and you'll have an amazing day pal/
Elliott - you're over analysing this BIG time. Anglesey is a great place to begin on. For a start, it's probably got the safest run-offs of any track I've been on, that's IF you come off. There's great scenery, it's a very wide track compared to the tighter tracks such as Oulton, Cadwell and Mallory and the tarmac is really smooth with no real overbanding or replacement sections. In the end of the day, you're only likely to come off if you're seriously pushing your ability and on your 1st day, it's unlikely you'll do that. Yes I binned it on the last session at Anglesey on my 1st ever trackday, but that's because I was looning it on the 1st lap, with cold tyres. If you stick to giving it a few laps to warm your tyres up each session and don't try and be Tommy Hill, you'll be fine.
Elliot who the fuckk has filled your head full of sh*t, the best track in the UK is widely known as the philip island of the UK and its Anglesey. It has the highest grip levels of any track Ive ever ridden on and the only thing that spoils it is the rain but thats the same for any curcuit. As for sudden down pours I think someones talking utter bollocks its no different to anywhere in the uk infact the closer to Manchester you are the more likely you are to see rain
Er mate your more likely to bin it at donnington as its a very very fast curcuit so any binnage will be fucking huge and likely to trash your bike, plus the melborne loop is notorious, stick to anglesey to get started
