What your reading? and is it worth picking up? Or what have you read? And do you recommend it? Just finished Guy Martins biography and now cracking through Nick Sanders The Extraordinary Life of an Ordinary Man vol 1. Martin's book is lets say, the equivalent of reading The Sun while Sander's is more The Times. The first few chapters are more interesting than the whole of Martin's book. Thats not to say Martin's book is crap, its like talking to a bloke in the chippy about bikes and trucks albeit one who knows his stuff. Sander's book tells a story, captures the reader with its raw emotion, humour and incredible desire to escape the mundane. Highly recommend both but for different reasons.
Bart's Dad, if you like thrillers and haven't already check out Jeffery Deavers Lincoln Rhyme novels, brilliant (The Bone Collector being one of them)
Guy Martin has the advantage of not being an a-hole, obviously only my opinion but it's a strong one Jamie Whithams book is brilliant
Is your opinion based on knowing him or from TV/Book? I like him, book is good but he lacks social skills at the race track that he seems happy to display on TV with complete strangers and for someone yet to win a TT the aloofness doesn't sit well with me..IMHO
My strong opinion is more on the other fella, lol Guy seems a top bloke, very down to earth and hard worker, his tv programs have been ace... That 'our guy in India' was brill
I agree mate, he is good viewing and all his TV programs have been top rate....be interesting to see how he winds down the bike racing, he has said he will be cutting races from his calendar to concentrate on other projects. Shame really as he been good for the sport. I do hope he breaks his TT cherry but big ask given the competition.
my daughter got it for me for xmas !!! it was a "joke " present !!! its just a picture book with 50 pictures of sheds !!!
The best bike related book I've read has got to be "Upper half of the motorcycle" Maybe not for everyone, but as a mature student of motorcycling I found it absolutely fascinating. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Upper-Half-Motorcycle-Unitty-Machine/dp/1884313752
Europe in the Neolithic which is obviously an archaeology book and 're-reading Germinal by Emile Zola. I'd thoroughly recommend both books except to people who don't like that kind of thing. Just finished Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino another superb book probably in my top 5 ever and Something under the Bed is Drooling by Bill Watterson, a future classic.
Stasiland by anna funder. Basically its about life behind the berlin wall for those who didnt conform to the regime's ideal. Everyone who i have lent it to has wanted to go to berlin after reading it, so it must be doing something right
wow who would have thought such intelligent reading among the bike scene...good to see we don't all fit in 1 box and peoples perceptions of bikers are generally off the mark...gold stars all round
