So is it correct to assume that the fuel reg senses a pressure increase via a pipe which takes off from the turbocharger and adjusts the fuel pressure?
You say if you blow down the pipe the reg increases the fuel pressure?
Can you idle the bike and blow down the pipe, would it over fuel and cut it out? Something you said that used to happen but has stopped since having idle problems?
Do you think when it's all connected that the reg is getting pressure to operate correctly?
Deffo sounds like a fuel starvation problem mate.
Sorry for the 20 Q's lol trying to help :)

all the above is correct. the boost signal creates the extra fuel pressure to fuel the boost,,dead simple.a bit crude. but dead relyable.
it is deffo a fuel starvation issue.when on boost there is some serious dettonation ,the type that sounds like it could shatter a piston.the reg is deffo getting the signal when riding cos the boost gauge gets its signal from the same line..and it reads a steady 5 psi.the whole fuel enrichment mechanism is working as far as i can see.. however the fuel just isnt getting to the injectors .the more questions you ask the more chance if sorting it...i remember reading a while ago something about pressure and flow..being that you can have one without the other..if this is the case new lines and filter may be the answer

Right oh, so you've eliminated the injectors being faulty, no air leaks and the reg is working as it should with a steady 5psi of pressure and the fuel pump is working as it should. Are you running a power commander or similar, have you tried disconnecting it and seeing what happenes?

Before you go and buy a fuel filter, can you not bypass it just for the process of elimination? Just thinking of saving you £'s.

Your correct about the pressure and flow, take a cooling system for example, the water pump or impellor provides the flow but not the pressure.

The same thing can happen to a fuel system and it's happened to me in the past, the bike can run off gravity from the tank, but when you demand more fuel the pump can't provide the fuel so you start having running problems and lean spots.

I'm at the match this afternoon, but I'll check in Ned, let us know how you get on mate.
    :)

just a heads up ... the reg sees 5psi only when on boost as a refrence signal from the turbocharger, the actual fuel pressure at idle is 40 psi .fuel pressure rises with boost @ 8-1...5x8=40 psi +40 psi base presseur =80 psi in the fuel rail.are you confused yet..lol
i dont think its a good idea to asume the pump is ok just cos it makes pressure ..the flow might not be there.i will replace the filter and lines later and if no result the n i am goin to bite the bullet and buy a new pump...a bosch one $$$

why dont you try and feed it of gravity first as the pump only sends it to the rail so if you hold a bottle above the rail that will give you the flow and than the rail sorts the pressure out

How did you get on yesterday Ned m8?

didnt get round to do anything.the wife had me booked in to paint the nursery for our new arrival ..lol..got the filter and lines tho ..goin to strip the fuel system tonight...the more i think about it the more i think it might be the pump

try doing what i said before... before you buy a pump!!

Ned I think I've got a pump in the shed somewhere m8, it's off a zx6 but you might be able to slave it on somehow, just thinking of you saving £'s mate just to rule it out like?
Can you not get hold of a pressure test kit 1st? I know how expensive little 'uns are mate, got 3 here lol

thanks very much matey..after striping the the whole fuel system there is nothing obvious that looks broken or worn out.i have done some modification to the tank for the fuel exit and return and i ordered a pump last night..i got rid of the oem pump years ago.i am using a 255 litres per hour 7 bar beast of a pump...my bike needs this cos of the very high pressure the injectors need to supply enough fuel.the one that i think might have failed was probably a cheap and low quality made in china item..the parts will be here about wednesday .god i hope this sorts the problem

changed the pump/fitted all new fuel lines /changed injectors /checked all vac lines/taken off throttle bodies and checked choke and idle mechanism/done a full diagnostic on electrics...bike still wont idle steadily...goin to take the fuel pressure reg off to see if it looks ok internaly..then swap coils...then swap crank angle sensor...then take it to a field and burn it...tw*t

Holy sh*t dude are you made of money?, throw some this way lol!

Agh that's sh*t news Ned, don't go burning it I'm sure you'll have it sorted soon enough.

Ned you've done some fettling with that R1 maybe you and Martin can get together cos he won't leave things be lol

Hope you get it sorted I can't wait to see it out

the regulator is ok ..thank fick cos it cost 250 quid and parts are only available in usa...did a voltage and resistance test on all the sensors just incase the ecu didnt pick up any faults...turns out the air intake sensor is fooked...good old yammy diagnostics ..load of wank...got a dyno session at otc on friday to make sure the fueling is ok for a track day at anglsea on sunday..all i need is the ait sensor and we can pit this nightmare to bed...anyone know where i can beg steal or borrow one..asap

Pete will sort you out proper re the dyno mate, just a thought have you asked him does he have a ait knocking about? I know he runs yams in his sidecar.
The only other breakers I know are Cheshire motorcycle salvage, or there's one off j9 of the m62 not sure of the name

got one from hills got it home tested it and its the same ..fukin hell..had to cancel the dyno and probably wont make the track day at anglsea on sunday ...gutted..goin to try blacks tomoz..last resort is one off a car in the scrappy ..cut the sensor and plug then wire it up

nick a load, maf, ait, lambda etc... always come in handy ;)

never know what other goodies you might come across..... intercooler for example ;)

well fyuck me!!!!! had 3 ait sensors and all fell below yam spec.so the service manual is wrong!.good job i didnt order a new one for 50 quid
went to otc coffin and splutterin ,explained the situation to pete and put it on the dyno..it was pig rich at idle so we pulled loads of fuel off the map but it was still rough as fek..the fuel mappin went well till it made boost then all kinds of weird sh*t happened to fuel and timing.with injectors at 100% and -4 timing it still detonated even at 3 psi boost....pete told me he was on the dyno for 4 hours till 8 last night trying to tune an r6 it too was runnin like a bag of shite..he disconected the powercommander and it ran like a dream......
i then decided to disconect the pc3 ignition module that i fitted 1 week before my massive headache started and guess what...... the bike suddenly started to idle steady as a rock an all the other symptoms dissapeared...i paid 250 for it from millenium and they are tryin to say i must have broke it cos me bike is modified...anywhoo got he fueling mapped and it made 216 bhp at 5 psi. could have ran more boost but the injectors maxed out..very happy..glad i didnt take it to a field and burn it. lol :D
