Replacing the battery on my CBR 600 FX after having to jump start it for a third time in as many months.
Prices seem to go from dirt cheap to bloody ridiculous.
Just wondering is there any REAL difference or if anyone can recommend any?
Brand? Place to get em (other than eBay) ect ect?

It 's Karma for you taking this piss when my battery was fucked!

    Halfrauds Bosch seem half decent.

I have only ever had to change my battery once in 10 years so cant comment on which is best but the original that died was a Varta so i replaced it with the same

If you've had one good one why change?

    I always buy yuasa.

Just bought a yuasa myself. 45 quid versus like 35 for cheap crap, not worth it.

    I'm really not sure
But I figure the battery is the easiest thing to replace first. Then if the problem continues look at possible other causes.
Battery does look old so hoping it will be that

    another Yuasa vote here
less critical on a IL4 but cheap batterys on a Ducati become an annual service item.
you get what you pay for.

How difficult is it to check regulator/ rectifier Dave??

easy if you have (or can lend) a multimeter.
check voltage with bike switched off. you want about 12.5v
start bike. check voltage at idle. should be a bit higher ie 13 - 13.5v
hold revs at about 50% of rev range. should be a bit higher still, roughly 14.5v
if your getting no increase, or a massive increase then there is either an issue with the reg rec or the generating circuit.

    just noticed its a cbr.
so id say its a good bet the reg rec has shat itself.
very common on them (and a lot of other Hondas)
I wouldn't buy anything till your sure.

as above - Honda's from the 90's era were quite poor. a bit better now but still not perfect.
tell tale signs are a overheated and scorched rectifier connector block. only fix is to snip and replace with quality and good fitting terminals
remember a poor connection generates resistance = heat.

oh and the rectifier is likely to be borked too.
i always keep a load spare - sadly most of my bikes are 90's honda's - i change rectifiers more often than oil filters.

yep as per lee .....i have seen it before on CBR you go and blow £50 on a battery ,but it dies with in a few weeks cos it wont charge properly, get a multimeter on it for a reading, Have a word with uncle rob !!! or if your in with Les short take it there he will test the reg for you etc .
