well i went to look at a dealers in bury over the weekend to look at a vtr 1000 .so im mooching round the shop looking at a few bikes and the owner shouts over.'surely one of these bikes fits you .i started to laugh and said im looking to step up from a cbr 600 .but its difficult to find something with more bhp than ive got but also feels bigger than the cbr.so he says well the vtr has more bhp and its a litre bike .so i say sorry mate but no its only 110 bhp .he lol and says well your cbr is only around 100/105 bhp .erm nope try 118 i say .bollox he says no cbr is 118bhp ive been a dealer and rider over 30 years and ive never heard of one .cue the mechanic walking in .whats all this he says, i repeat my statement he asks what bike so i show him a pic , he says weve had three of those two in that colour and there only standard cbr's with a sticker that says ultima lite on, doesnt make any diffeence to the bike "its standard" so out comes the phone and i bring up the specs online from honda .pmsfl never seen two peeps shut up so quickly in all my life .suffice to say i wont be buying a bike from a dealer who knows fuk all about what he is selling or a " mechanic" that doesnt know bikes .

The VTR might be 8 bhp less, but it will dish out oodles more torque. Much easier to ride particular with Lady T on the back.

Chat with @ExOldRacerGit he has an old CBR600F and when sorting his rear suspension he mentioned something about different height suspension for different year models.
Maybe they did something similar for the CBR600RR?

Get its big brother, the Fireblade.
If you buy an old enough one you can even get classic insurance.

If it was that place on Bolton Rd near Bury Bridge you might have noticed their horse tied round their back and the spurs on their boots ? Wouldn't buy a pair of gloves from that place...

Without putting it on a dyno you can only go off the specs online.
    Which seem to vary massively.
Ive just had a quick look and seen figures varying from 95bhp up to the 118 you quote.

I would ride the vtr rather than base a decision on figures you read somewhere.
Bhp is not the full story.

The VTR1000F will have a fair bit more grunt, and probably much easier to tune than the CBR600. I'd also be sceptical about that 118bhp figure. I think you'd be lucky to see 100 on an accurate dyno, and that's about VTR1000F territory.

But the obvious answer to your question is a 1990s CBR900RR Fireblade. It's quite a bit lighter than your 'ultima lite', the engine will feel a lot stronger, and it's a bit bigger all round. Beautifully built, and really easy bike to work on too.

why change a bike Eddie to gain something like 8hp ?? you won't notice the difference ..However with the VTR1000 you would notice the torque and the grunt

I agree with Alex..a blade is the most logical step up in terms off power delivery ….but you may have to reduce your budget for buying if it does not include the insurance difference.
