Have a 2002 L9 zxr400 that I aint used yet due to me taking test this Wednesday, have been starting it and running for 5 mins and having a roll around the drive every now and again just to keep it ticking over.

Charged battery yesterday and started this morning 1st time with choke.......after being warmed up I revved it hard a couple of times and noticed after a few mins that there was some smoke coming from under the front fairing...........is this because it aint been run properly and it could be burning off some oil from last service?

Or is there something else that I should be looking at?

There is no leak that i can see........nothing in the bottom of the fairing and nothing on the garage floor (its been in the same place now for over 4 weeks)

Its got just over 8000 miles on it and has a fsh, engine sounds fine with a slight rattle when cold.....am told this is normal for the zxr400.

Did it come from the radiator area?

Where did you leave your bike? Was it raining?

    Was it exhaust gases?

If the bike was serviced before you got your hands on it.

It's more than likely that draining the oil/removing the filter put some excess oil on the collector box/downpipes.

Happens with the 7r due to the location of the sump and filter.

It will burn off and smoke for around 5mins then when its all burned you will just have a dirty stain on the downpipes were the oil was.

Check for that first :) it may be nothing worrying!

I cant see anything leaking or dripping, looks and smells like oil on exhaust somewhere. Aint been left out in rain and it doesent smell like exhaust gasses either.

Taking test on Wednesday so hopefully get it out Wed afternoon and give it a good run!
