ZX6R A1P Tail (full project underway) NEW PICS*

Well I have been looking at this undertray/tailtidy for a while but couldnt bring myself to spend all those dollars on one.

So I was scouring the net everyday looking at regular undertrays and my options for customising them when i accidently discovered this.

I immediatly snapped it up and it has now arrived ready for my modifications to take place.

It does need some fettling but nothin some fibre glass and inventiveness wont solve. I have already tested it and now have it broken into its componant parts ready for my mods.

First of all i noticed the bulbs where not as bright as they could be, when i stripped it down i found no reflective material at all in the bulb housings...

This is the original cast bulb mount. not very bright and clearly well used

Enter the PVA glue, Paintbrush and household kitchen foil.

I applied the Glue to the cast, Allowed it to go slightly tacky and then applied the tin foil shiny side out to the cast and shaped it accordingly

The finished article.

This is designed to work similar to the stock one with the tail bulbs illuminating the registration plate. I am unkeen on this so that will be an LED modification.

Also I am unsure whether I should keep the intergrated indicators on this unit or to block them off with fibre glass and fit external ones. hmmmm

The whole unit will be gloss black and sealed up correctly cos the stock sealent is wank to say the least.

that would be too much red, i have seen em done black and chuckys was black. It looks mint. red lights against a black cowl.. decided to keep the internal indicators and just ordered LED bulbs to replace em. i will get the resistors at a later date

I have never seen them in black to be honest.

 

Av been tinkereing tonight and managed to find some LED strips left over from the motion sensitive lighting we have on our kitchen. couple of chops and boomph. ! super bright LED reg light...

Each little yellow square is a white LED. Tested it and its really bright. Just waiting for the LED indicator bulbs to arrive and am gonna take the plastics to the local bodyshop tomorrow to get it painted black

 

Get it painted and on mate.

 

Dropped it off at the painters before. Hopefully my bulbs and decal will arrive at the same time.

 

I think it will look good mate have you got a small plate to put on as well.

 

thats the last thing to order. taking it down to about 8x9. still legal but a lot smaller then the 9x10 thats on it

 

ordered my reg plate bracket today. managed to find one that is exactly what i need. everything is ordered now just need it to arrive.

 

Right well my undertray project has developed to a point where I have decided to do a few more mods.

New wheels were fitted today. Black powder coated and teh rear one Has a Red Kawasaki K accross the rear of it and it looks pretty good. Rim tape is on the way so cant wait for taht to arrive.

Decided to keep the stock colours but change some little bits. The tail unit is gonna lose the grabrails and be repainted. Also removing the rear pegs and hopefully fitting a Harris exhaust hangar. debating on what to do with the front indicators.. either flush LED or blanks and mirror mount them.

Any suggestions for indicators or links to somethin u think will look good.???

New hugger will replace the fugly one thats fitted now and the best to last will be hopefully getting the frame painted black,

Lookin into the Nissin caliper change and will also be visiting KAIS for a setup. then on to OTC to have teh fuelling setup and a dyno run.

Looking good pal, when you say fueling setup what do you mean. Dynojet kit by any chance?

i mean whatever they recomend to get the bike running at its best with its current mods, yeah i am lookin at em jo and just won the harris hanger i want
