A mate who restores old Zeds bought this POS 1973 Z1 back in March and stuck it in his shed......

Six months and a lot of time (and money) later he wheeled this back out of the Shed...... a Truly Stunning transformation.

daft question but are the carbs on back to front in one of the pics as the tops are pointing forwards in the top pic and pointing backwards in the other or are they different carbs ect??

Carbs in the first pic are wrong, they are VM26's off the later Z900 A4. In the 2nd pic the bike now has the correct (for the year) VM28 carbs.

Despite looking all the same the Z1 had 4 different models in it's 4 year production run, each one being different from the one before, so 'A good eye for detail' is very important when trying to spot the difference between an original bike and a 'Bitza' (a bike made up of bits from all the other models) as this can make a MASSIVE difference to value's....

Resto will have cost circa £7K, (this doesn't include the original cost of the bike). So he's be into the bike for around £10K.

Much depends on what engine work is required, a proper rebuild with crank and head work can run into several £K.

And of course none of the above includes your own time.... and how do you put a price on that?.
