Basically i cant see anything at night unless i use full beam, i just replaced the main bulb because it didnt turn on unless i switched to full beam and it still doesnt. The guy in halfords said thats how its meant to be and on small bikes you are meant to use the high beam. When i turn the bike on the small bulb at the bottom turns on and thats it. The main bulb is always off unless i use full beam and im not sure thats right? If the main bulb does only turn on when full beam is on how am i meant to see anything? The bulb in my bike now is http://www.halfords.com/motoring/mo...ds-bike-it-motorcycle-bulb-hmb3603-12v-25-25w My headlight unit is similar to this one http://i00.i.aliimg.com/wsphoto/v0/...adlight-b-font-ybr125-font-b-headlights-b.jpg Cheers.
the little bulb is your parking/sidelight bulb your main bulb should have a high and low beam filament which the pic has,for some reason it seem your low beam is not working try undoing the handlebar switch and squirting wd 40 around it aslo check your wires going to the bulb holder.
Looks like you've got a dodgy wire somewhere. The front part of the main light should light up for your dipped beam, with the back section coming in for your high beam. The little bulb is a parking light as JohnnyRotten said.
ignore the small bulb that has nothing to do with high and low beams! the big bulb should light up when you put the lights on then when you put it on high beam it lights up brighter both high and low work off the same bulb make sure the bulb thats in has 2 filaments( 2 little curly wires inside the bulb)and not one like a indicator bulb
and go tell the bloke in halfrauds he's about as much use as a chocolate teapot..... or one of rad rabits for sale ads
Thanks for all the replies, i guess ill have to get the wiring sorted since it seems like it is that.
Yup, the dipped beam definitely lights up when your engine is switched on. Only the sidelights illuminate if the ignition is on but the engine is off. You may have an earthed wire or possibly a connection that has corrosion on. You know it's not the bulb as you've already done the easy thing and change the bulb.
