Mines done the same. On sunday it kept freezin. A mate has looked at it should know tomorrow if its ok or not
Try consolewizard.co.uk - I've had mine repaired there twice already. They're based in Bolton and charge around £30 for a repair.
mates was doing same and it was full of fluff where he'd had it sat on the carpet. blew it out inside and reset it - works ok now. check it's not choked with dust before you spend silly money getting it fixed
This happened to my brothers one and he took it to someone and got something soldered back inside and it works ok now someting to do with it overheating?
Same thing happened to my lads - there is a quick fix to get you going for a while - turn the unit off, disconnect the cable to screen, insert two cotton buds into the fan housing (the bit with all the holes in the back) - this will stop the two cooling fans from kicking in, switch the unit back on and let it run for at least 20 mins - the red lights should gradually go out, don't leave it on its own while you are doing this as you are basically overheating the unit - sounds strange I know as the problem is caused by the main chip overheating, but I can vouch for the fact that it worked at least 5 times on my lads one - you will have to get it fixed eventually though as this is only a quick fix.Apparently all new xbox's are fitted with a new cooling system. Give it a go it might work - there are some other quick fixes on Youtube too. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=red+ring+of+death
just done all that got rid of two red lights just leaves 2 and they wont budge enything else i can do with your trick seems to work in a way
I know how to fix it.. haha watched the engineer fix my mates and its a fuckin doddle. Ring me dale an i will talk ya through it. By the way anyone who has their xbox standing up. lie it down cos that is what causes this fault.
the ring of death fault is commonly caused by the heatsinc peeling away from the processor. it can be repaired permanently by replacing teh standard clamp with a new one and some new paste. the kits can be purchased off ebay and anyone who knows their way around a motherboard will be able to do it. the heat sinc paste microsoft used is shite and dries up, coupled with crap brackets and the console being stood up they just peel away. so lie your console down to prevent it and do teh repair yourself. best ebay kit to use is teh one for about 5.99 as it comes witha proper xclamp.
Try it a couple of times - didn't work the first time I tried it - apart from that I dont know, sorry mate
I can fix this for ya pal and it wont cost you...well cost of a pint for the screws heat sync paste....PM me fella, its not the heat sync paste causing the problem...its the connections between the cpu, gpu and the mother board...i'll use a heat gun to re establish the connections and replace the x-clamp ....it will work alright... console wizard are great by the way if you'd rather go to them but unless the GPU is fooked (which can happen and they cant fix that either) then i'll help out. I'm in Chorley so you'll have to drop it off. PM me if anybody wants me to help em out...PJ can do this job too i think so if your Liverpool way he might be a better bet
Or better still fix it sell it buy a ps3 & never get it again oke: ... p.s. I dont have either I'm a PC man & anti microsoft  I do have a Wii though cos I like shaking my ass in the front room so passer's by can have a good laugh :winky:
