Be careful guys 'n' gals the www.support.me telephone scam is doing the rounds again.... you get a call saying they were from Microsoft/Windows support and that you have downloaded nasty virus's/malicious software which they would help you get rid of. you have to log in to www.support.me and then on a log in screen give a six digit number and grant them access to you computer. www.support.me belongs to a company called log-me-in in the USA. Looks quite authentic also...Microsoft support will NEVER call you unless you are in contact with them and its a requested call back. Steer very clear of any company that does.... if you have some time to waste just blag along with them & finish with a final flurry of verbal abuse :yahoo:
+1. At my shop, there's been a spate of customers coming in explaining about this. Best thing to do is to go along with their ploy if you want a bit of fun and then just say "I have a mac" They hate that!
had the phone call 2 weeks ago nice indian fella was insistant i turn on my lappy and go to this site thing is my lappy was on and when i asked him 3 times where they got my phone number from he hung up on me ! my other favourite at the moment is storm seal ? trying to give me cavity wall insulation i had it done last year by a different firm so when i tell them after there 5 min rant on they get a bit annoyed as i did when they phoned me 4 times in a row mon-thurs must have forgot to tale my number off the dailling list
As they normally open the conversation with, "Your Computer has a dangerous virus", it is fun to lead them on and when they get bored of trying to work out why you cant get to the website and they inevitably ask "What computer do you have" Say, Commodore 64 / Spectrum / other old computer of choice If you have time you can have lots of fun wasting their time As you say, bet a lot of people fall for it, they are quite persistant and convincing
the best responce.... Let them go all the way through then say "Sorry, do i have to turn the computer on?"
