Yes, you got the Chicane. However we were heading to Manchester from Mansfield. I know the Chesterfield Chapel road well. Used to use it as my preferred trans-Pennine route travelling up from the smoke during the summer months. Real shame it is all a 50mph now.

You checked the chain tension? In my early days on the 125 I had no clue how to do it properly so the wheel was always slightly out of align (side of the wheel closest to the rear shock was pointed to the right) this meant it crabbed a bit and when turning left it felt twitchy and like there was no feeling from the rear when leaned over. I guess this is the sensation you're feeling?

Been thinking about this. You say when you good lady is pillion the bike behave better.
With her pillion the rear will sit lower, the rear tire will deform more and the steering rake will be shallower.
You could try and reproduce this by slackening of the spring (not the damping screw) and dropping the back tyre (say) 4psi.
Also check to see if the previous owner has dropped the yokes down the fork legs.

Would only change one thing at a time though.
Also if you get it right for you, it will then be wrong with a pillion so you will need to adjust it back again or take it "steady EDDIE".

Eddie nipped to mine last night and we had a quick play.
The first thing that was apparent was there was zero rebound damping on the rear shock. The adjuster was wound out too far.
So we set everything to std settings.
Set the sag front and rear, added a little more rebound damping to the rear, and adjusted the wheel alignment.
I suggested replacing the tyres as the rear is squaring off and they are an older tyre (d207's).
I think the lack of rebound damping has had it reacting to bumps too quickly, something that the added weight of a pillion would mask somewhat.
Quick test ride and eddie said it feels much better.

Ha, some gimp in an XF wanted the piece of road I was then occupying. He'll be picking up the bill for a dent repair, lets put it that way.

Good to hear you got your suspension sorted!

Confidence is slower to gain than to lose. Go at it careful and steady.

As I was once told, keep the rubber side down and the shiny side strange.

Me and Scott set my suspension up the other week... just played with the settings till it felt good, single and two up... we did a good job me thinks. Bike is solid all round.
