came to work on the mt03 today to keep it charged up as im yet to get an optimate and not used it since sunday. started up first time easy peasy so battery seemed to have a good charge. let it warm for 5 mins before heading out and all was perfect...
half a mile away from work the dash flashed on and off a few times- no engine warning light or anything like that then the bike died completely. dash went off, engine off. no idea whats happened. fuel pump doesnt prime and no activity on the dash, starter button does nothing as if the bike is still turned off... pushed it to work and got my dad to come with the red key incase the factory fitted immobiliser had tripped or something. tried with the red key but still no luck.

with either key the headlight and brake light come on when ignition turned to on so there is still power but the dash doesnt even do a warning light never mind the start up process. kill switch is in correct position, bike in neutral and tried with side stand both up or down and with clutch in and out. (my chain has the correct slack too ;) )

ive unplugged the headlight incase it was drawing too much juice but no change and that wouldnt explain it dying while running? its as if the bike thinks the ignition is set to off. out of ideas chaps. short of ringing the dealer and asking them to come pick it up, what should I do/check? that'll be my last resort

gonna try unplugging the reg/rec thing (whatever that is) on my lunch and see if does anything. maybe a fuse has gone, or a connection vibrated loose?

Yep, check all fuses. After that back to the dealers.. It's brand new isn't it?

you're looking for a decent rated fuse for the ignition.

Could well be original bat due for a change / not holding charge , other than that your chain must to to tight :D

Dealers would be my first point of call...They sold you a dodgy bike. You were put in a dangerous position and feared your life when the bike suddenly cut out with all the traffic flying past you... I would want 1. It fixing 2. Assurance that i wont happen again 3. Some form of compensation i.e. new tyres or free service when its needed

Just see if you can see a date of manufacture on the battery just to give you an idea how old it is.

Its a known fact that the headlight on the MT03 makes your bike cut out and will not start again , so you need to take it off and throw it away , better still give it to me. :ninja:i

cheers guys. im assuming that the lights and immobiliser run on a different circuit to the ignition etc which is why those arent affected if it is a blown fuse?

if its a simple job of changing a fuse I wouldn't bother going through the dealer. not worth them having the bike for an eternity to do something simole I could do myself (if its pretty cheap)

as it isnt even attempting anything and it started perfect this morning I doubt it would be the battery itself.

and no your not having my headlight :p!

Unlucky mate, I'm working from home today otherwise I could have stood in the car park shaking my head and saying I can't figure it out.

fixed it! was a blown ignition fuse. found the manual online, located the relevant fuse under the seat and switched it for one of the spares.... all of that and put back together in my 15 minute break! quite pleased with myself... also removed the parking light fuse while I was there as I keep putting that on by accident when locking the steering. Thanks for your help chaps. most likely caused as I washed the bike sunday night so water must have worked its way into the fusebox as the rubber cover wasn't on it properly!

    lesson learned!
