    Mornin'

Good to meet you all, should be out for lots more runs now I've got my A2 licence. Can't get enough of the bike atm, all I want to do is ride around!

Any tips for gaining confidence in cornering? I think I need to drop a cog so I've got a bit more torque around corner.....

Drop your shoulder when you're going into the corner, feels alot more natural

Get all your braking and gear changing done early so the bike is settled to enter the corner
Maintain drive! You want about 60/40 drive on the back/front wheel, so don't go in in too high a gear
Keep your eye on the "vanishing point" Where the two sides of the road meet in the distance (Think of a 3D, upside down "V"), if it's getting closer, the bend is tightening up, if it's getting further away, the corner is straightening out.
Keep your head level with the horizon and if it helps shift your head towards the mirror that's in the direction your turning (This helps your shift your bodyweight)
Learn how to consciously countersteer, push the bar in the opposite direction of which you want to go (If your turning left, you want to be PUSHING on the left hand clipon, this causes the bike to 'fall' to the left, hold the bar constantly to get a constant rate of lean)
Make sure you're not tense, if you're tense, this will get transferred through the steering, waggle your elbows as you approach a corner as a sort of 'tension breaker' it helps you loosen up for the bend.
Don't go in too slow, as it's fucking hard to turn properly if you're going to slow
Have confidence in your tyres, if you're afraid of leaning, you're more likely to panic and target fixate.

The best thing to do it try not to be scared, you will go into your natural survival mode if you do, which involves tensing up, focusing on the nearest danger, which is good if you're a caveman, not good if you're trying to observe the whole road. (For example, you see a brick, the tensing up means you can't avoid the brick, and because we're inherently taught to keep an eye on danger it means you can't take your eyes off of the brick, meaning that you naturally steer towards it)

Maintain a wide view of the road, break it up into sections, Long, Middle, Close, with the odd rear observation.

    Hope that helps, anyway

my advice. hold the throttle wide fucking open and hope for the best :D

at least thats what i do :D, close your eyes if must!

    in all serious.

Best thing to do is learn to be smooth, speed comes later!

Smooth braking, gear changes, smooth/fluidic movement over the center of the bike with your body weight.

once you have that nailed, get used to learning lines on the road.

as for advice on confidence.... i agree with tom, get smooth first then you will gain confidence with experience, its early days yet so dont go tryin to get your knee down just yet lol ;)
