Boring subject, has anybody got waterproofs they can recommend, either a suit or just sn over suit. Ive got sn oversuit but seems to keep leaking. So if anybody has got one thats 100% waterproof, bike gear seems to claim it is ... without actually being so
I'm yet to find anything that's waterproof in prolonged heavy rain, I find the best solution is on oversuit 1 piece preferablythat fits well but most importantly a good base layer such as merino wool that's comfortable and still insulates well when it's damp.
Hi Steve, I've been using a Weise quilted oversuit. I've used it in a couple of light showers and also one 45 minute heavy downpour. It is very warm and waterproof although a small amount of water came through at the front of the neck during the heavy down pour but this was due to using a cotton neck tube. I can also recommend getting a size 2 sizes larger as the forearms and lower legs can be a bit tight. I got mine from Sportbikeshop check out the link http://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/23158
Alpinestars Ill-Nino. 100% waterproof. Had it ages, never has it even let a dribble in. Ive been in some torrential rain on the motorway for hours and been caught in endless lorry spray.. Still kept me dry..
Took the buffalo 1 piece oversuit to Ireland this year. It rained biblically as we first got there and we had to ride in it all day. Never leaked even a little great thing. However they only have a lifespan of a couple of years because of the tough life hey lead being yanked over boots n leathers etc.
I have a Heine Gericke 2 piece and I have to say that having used this on a number of very wet rides, that a 1 piece is the only way to truly stay dry. No matter how well wrapped up you think you are, the water will find a way in between the trousers and the tunic, especially as it runs over the tank and onto the seat - I ride a naked bike so it is obviously worse - you'll get away with more on a fully faired bike. I always wear a base layer (Pro-Skins) - this is great in summer but has the bonus that if you do get damp it isn't that uncomfortable ...
Cheers men im going to look at them now. Ive been usung my vauxhall oversuit in the near freezing weather, fits 5 people and bone dry and warm. But the mrs doesnt half chew my ear about it!
i use a Dainese Goretex jacket …its branded as waterproof using the D Dry system. If caught in rain or heavy showers it has so far not leaked ,and when if it does ,within the next 24 months, it will be returned to Dainese stating the goods are not as labeled…….However …when it is persistent rain or heavy rain , i actually wear a BMW waterproof over jacket over the Dainese one…..i rode through Andorra with this combination on in rain/hail like i have never seen before , it hurt your arm when it hit you ! others in the group were soaked . my jacket combo survived the weather bomb that day . I think you get what you pay for , brands like A stars ,Halvarsons, seem to be pricey , but I'm sure they work . its important to keep body hands and feet dry and warm ,in not doing so it can lower concentration
Ex army Gore-tex over pants £10, rst over jacket £35, Frank Thomas Gore-tex boots £20 (second hand off here) all worked well for last year or so. Also using keis heated gloves
I have done 320,000 miles in four of these. They are waterproof up to around 80,000, miles each. http://shop.twistyride.com/waterproof-motorbike-over-jacket-high-visibility-bering/ Got my first one of these a while back on the strength of the above. Went to Stelvio and back this year. It rain for six our of eight days. They work. http://shop.twistyride.com/waterproof-motorbike-over-trousers-bering-chicago/ Brilliant cheap kit.
army surplus gore-tex mtp pants which were 17 quid and a 20 quid german army surplus gore-tex equivelant jacket. dry as @victor meldrew 's mrs! lmao
Ive been using hein gericke stuff for a few years. Shame they went pop as their textiles were amoungst the best. Think mine were the tricky 4. They have been used pretty much non stop for the last few years and never let me down. Also very warm but not at all bulky. I only wear a t shirt underneath until it gets to about 5 deg then its two t shirts. Deffo not the cheapest. The rrp was about £800 when I bought mine but they always had some sort of deal going. When these finally give up im going to just get an oversuit to go over them though.
