Right i've got a scorpion carbon can on the bike but its to long and i want to make it about 3/4 - 1/2 the size. Any advice for doing it, is it a case of just cut it up and then re-rivet the end cap back on
Best advice is not to do it. I've seen stubbies where the exhaust has been cut so short that it affects the running of the engine (i.e. splutters at high rpm).
Im not doing it to make it mad loud so it doesnt need to be tiny, i just want it to fit in with the rest of my bike
Dead easy to do mate,iv dine one if mine before now..just chop it down and pack all the packing back into what us left and bang some rivets in....job done
a few tips: dont just go at it with the hacksaw.... you need to know which end the perforated tube inside is welded as it will be tack welded on one end, usually the link pipe end but you wont know til its too late lol. drill out the rivets from both ends. have a good look at it first cos it may be spot welded in a few places and it will need grinding off carefully. pull the sleeve off the end caps. wear gloves when handling the packing or you will itch like after a night out in wigan if the sleeve or packing is fkt have a look at PJ Engineering in the links section for replacement parts at good £ they also have like twin outlets, carbon tips etc.... worth a look. you could even make your own can for about £70 cut the sleeve to the desired length, say 4" shorter. cut the perforated tube to 3 1/2" shorter as it will sit inside the end cap by about 1/2". if you dont do this it will rattle like fk and drive you mad. undo the packing carefully before you cut the sleeve and tube (if you intend to reuse it.) dont use ordinary wire wool unless you want a firework display lol. wrap it tightly as possible around the perforated tube and secure it with nylon fishing line. the idea of this is that it will melt when it gets hot and allow the packing to expand inside the sleeve. if you use no packing it will sound really tinny. dont use a metal hammer to knock it together... use a rubber mallet if you have to hit it get some stainless rivets - ally ones are wank and will go grey as soon as you heat up the can. they are just as easy to pop take your time and it will look top. remember, as peter sutcliffe said, measure twice, cut once. and yes, too short a can will affect the tuned length of the system and the bike will lose torque and probably wont rev out fully.
