Right need to diagnose the issue I suspect I need new clutch plates but ill throw it out there to see if it's something else.

First thing when the engine is up to temp but only just if I crack open the throttle for a overtake the clutch slips. It doesn't do it when the bike is warm that I can tell anyway. The bike runs semi sinth before you ask.

    Any ideas?

Had the same on a firestorm at 55k miles. Was springs.

if it doesn't do it when it's up to temp i wouldn't worry about it much. what oil is it?

Just had the same symptoms on my nc23 track bike. Fine for normal riding but when you gave it a hand full it would slip, i took the clutch out whilst doing an oil change to inspect & found this

Also the springs where weak aswell, all replaced good as new.

Same oil I use in the R1. Found an article about cleaning the push rod so I might try that.

I bought plates for the firestorm expecting them to be shagged. In the end they were not needed.

Using the "kiss" approach, you have checked the lever is free moving, the cable is free moving (is the VFR a cable clutch?) and either the slave lever or slave cylinder linkage free of grim and smooth in action? After that the springs and plates are next. Just hope it is the clutch and not a slipper clutch. That will extingish your parade.

iirc springs go on these hondas before anything else?

For the cost ~20quid id just change the plates plus the springs. will solve your problem.

If there is play in your clutch it wont be the push rod also as the bike is fine at high temps the pushrod wouldn't get better the hotter it gets.

It's a hydraulic clutch so no play. I'm going to clean the diaphragm, change the fluid and grease the push rod this weekend to see if that cures it if not ill change the lot.
