Im looking into getting rid of my car and getting a transit sized van as an every day vehicle. Can anyone advise me as to what kind of fuel economy I'd be looking at and which makes/models are worth looking at? Prob gonna have about 5 or 6 k to spend Cheers
Mk 7 transit. Low roof swb 280 or 260 the 85ps one. Mine will sit at 80 all day and do 35mpg Sit at 60 - 70 and get 45 odd About the same as my Astra 1.8 G and a bit better than the 3.2 TT
Obviously depends on the car it's replacing. My transit costs less to run than my 3.2 TT and much less to maintain
We have a 2002 Vauxhall Vivaro 1.9turbo diesel, (So much older than you will be looking at.) It is fantastic on fuel. We do pizza deliveries and although we had a 1.5 Nissan Almera we did the deliveries in the van as it was much more economical. Also it drives like a car. We've had Transits in the past but much prefer the Vivaro.
Used to have problems using the tip due to the barriers. Options in a number of areas I found limiting for every day use.
Never heard a bad word about a vivaro and you see them everywhere. Would definitely be my choice having driven one for a few weeks but I've not driven a transit so I can't compare.
We've had a few Transits and I really prefer the Vivaro. It's so comfortable to drive. Im a 5 ft women and its easier to drive than a Nissan Micra we once had. We go to the tip at least once a month, sometimes with a couple of van loads and if we go and tell the lads its household rubbish they just lift the barrier for us.
Why? This sounds like a quote from the 80's. I have a VW LT35 as an everyday vehicle, 36mpg round town 40+ on a run. Vivaros are not bad a friend has just got one and it's doing 36-40 mpg mixed driving with a roof rack and awning fitted. He's just chipped it to 130bhp for improved economy. Vauxhalls did have horrific gearbox problems on their vans. Have a good look and do as much research as you can think what size you need more than economy.
Very much this. Vivaros and masters ( same van) can kill boxs and are costly to repair. To be fair transits are also problematic. Seized small ends rodding the motors. Fuel pump issues etc etc. Driven many vans over the years. Still prefer tranny out of the lot. But for 5k you can find a nice one of which grooves you. Apart from the vw transporter.
Mates van is a Renault master mwb on a 55 plate 1.9dcti been remapped he gets 45mpg from it Sent from my C6903 using Tapatalk
My works van is a 62 plate transit prior to this we had renault trafics which is the same van as the vivaro and nissan I prerered the trafic for comfort and style but as for fuel the trafic was slightly better and reliabilty both the trafic and the transit have been reliable concidering they are doing 1000 miles a week
What are you thinking of carrying in it just asking because I bought a vw sharan people carrier it's a seven seater but all the seats are seperated and all just clip out you would be surprised with how much you can get in it
Cant have windows cause people might see the bodies.............. In all seriousness once the missus passes her test and gets a car we will have 2 cars and a bike dont need 2 cars so one car one van and a bike would be more useful
