Anyone got a spare set of tyre warmers? struggling to justify £130 for a new set if i'm only going to be using them 2 or 3 times a year.
Most track day companies hire them, around £20 i think. Might be worth a look if your only gonna use them a few times.
so for the higorent amongst us (like me) how long does a tyre take to cool down? after its been in the warmer and what cools the tyre on track ?
to my limited knowlage, the tyre warmer is to limit the amount of hot and cold cycles the tyre goes through rather than just keeping them hot for a certain amount of time. they will cool very quickly after taking the warmers off. multiple hot-cold cycles can cause the rubber to become brittle and split so keeping it hot between sessions is more to prolong the life of the tire by reducing the amount of times it changes temperature, rather than keeping hot for grip reasons.theyd probably be cold again by the time you get to the end of pit lane but will heat up quickly again once up to speed.may be wrong though, that was just my understanding of it.
if your track daying with a mate , in a different group , just share a pair on hire . No limits do them ..or ive seen some go on ebay for £50 ...
