Pop quiz, its now winter, it was also icy coming home tonight, so the cbf is going to bed for the winter and the xv 535 is coming out but she needs a new front tyre, here comes the fun part, The stock front tyre size is a tubed 3.00s 19 (which works out at a 90/90/19) but, Would it be do-able to fit a tubed 100/90/19 motocross/off road tyre to the front? Just for extra turning grip in the snow?
I cant see motocross rubber working on the road.. Just google'd them to see what ya on about.. Yes they may be good on sand/mud/even snow.. on icy tarmac tho...
Yeah, not sure how that one happened, but it appears its all of extra importance! Its got to get me to buxton 3 times a week, and it snows like nobodies business up there. But no, its not an ideal road tyre, considering a road legal enduro style tyre at the minute, simply because there doesnt seem to be much out there in the way of grip for this bike.
I know that michelin do a proper winter tyre, but only in scooter sizes it seems. Maybe someone does big bike size ones? You really want something like this with a softer compound and lots of sipes, like a car winter tyre, than a knobbly tyre. http://moto.michelin.co.uk/tyres/michelin-city-grip-winter
Buxton on bike through winter! Fuck the tyres may I suggest that app that calls loved ones when you crash.
4th year in a row now! Well, i called a few places for advice, and it seems other people have tried something similar, but to no avail due to the sizing of the wheel  So i've settled for the sensible option and chosen a new set of the grippiest whitewalls i could get hold of
That's where I'd just complain be a girl and drive. I've done my winters but Buxton is hero territory.
Restricted by the width of the forks as well sadly, its a fairly small bike. General consensus is that off road tyres arent a good idea anyway, so i've just opted for something with a bit more tread.
Best of british luck with a winter commute to buxton. Lad at my last job lived there. Pics of his road each winter did nothing for its appeal.
