Once I spoke to a very well known drummer in a very well known heavy metal band, and then watched some videos on youtube of them hammering the drums.

Does that mean I can play the drums?

Josh I get the impression I'm gonna be wasting my time, but what's the big hang up about going in the novice? I was in the novice for a good 12 months and maybe 10 trackdays before stepping up to inters, I only made the step up when I felt comfortable to do so, best thing you can do reading between the lines is when you sign on on Sat tell them you wanna go in novice, in other words 'stop bein a Billy Big Bollox' and just enjoy your day :)

    Yeah...
I said that to him last year, along with some "dude, just take your time or you will die" and "calm the fuck down" and so on.

I'm sure Josh will do fine this morning.
All ye olde bastards are just jealous of his youthful enthusiasm :)
I'm sure I only did Oulton once in the novice group and it was scary due to the many others in the group riding like kamikaze pilots on very interesting lines.

Needless to say that when I returned to Oulton park I booked into intermediate and I was given a bright yellow bib to wear, to warn others I was new to the track (less than 5 outings if my memory serves me correctly). Anyways, I held my own and found that although intermediate group weren't that much quicker than the novice group, they certainly all held better lines and knew when/where to overtake.

Totally with you on this, but it depends on the riders skill.

I was at Rockingham for the first time recently, so went in novice. I have a friend who instructs and went out with him for the first session as he wanted to show me round. Came in and he wanted to move me up to inters from the next session, but there wasn't enough room.
He knows how I ride, has followed me and I trust his judgement and he has been racing for many years.

I don't know how good a rider Josh is, but he has enthusiasm. I certainly don't agree with the 'advice' that he should not be in novice for more than one track day at the same track. If there is a problem with the group he is in, it will be highlighted to the organisers by either the marshalls or the instructors.
