Cheers, I'm gonig for a Lextek Heavy Duty Motorcycle Drive Chain 428-120 Gold and a Front Sprocket 428-16T 156FMI 157FMI and there recomended for my bike. I'm going to get the chain first, have that fitted, then deal with the sprockets next month as money permits. It will do about 40miles between do the chain fitting and sprocket fitting.
You've misunderstood,or I haven't been clear,I have put the chain on twice, once when it first happened before the chain tensioned,it wasn't ridin at all till it was done, and yesterday,to ride up the hill to my house,I'm not a fool, if the chain come's off once it can very easily happen again and cause an accident,it won't be ridden until the new chain is on.
There's no point putting a chain on then new sprockets, just do them both at once, knackered sprockets will just cause premature chain wear.
I simply can't aford to get the chain + all the sprockets +pay for fitting at the same time. and I need to use the bike.
mate its entirely possible you will fuck the new chain within that time. in fact its pretty probable. the knackered sprockets will stretch the chain from day one. cant your parents lend you the cash for a month?
Unfortunately that's the joys of motorcycling, it's better to wait and buy both rather than have to buy two chains after the sprockets have destroyed the new one
just a suggestion. but for less than £20 you can get a d.i.d. one? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DID-Heavy...pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts_13&hash=item20e0e60123
You will knacker the chain if you fit it on old sprockets. If you absolutely have to put a chain on alone, make it a cheap one and be ready to throw it away for another when you get new sprockets. Best plan is tap mum for a sub.
as much as I'd like to ask for money from the bank of MaD,They have just spent pretty much all of it on a holiday to the maldives.+ There doing the whole "Provide for your self etc" thing.
the d.i.d. brand? yeah. same with most chain manufacturers. obviously in different sizes and grades. think of it like tyres etc.
Atm all the parts will cost me about £50 + 2 hours fitting,at about £35 an hour so £70 , £120 in total. Could save a bit doing it my self, however no where near the level of mechanical savvy or tools needed.
mate your a young lad. all of whom need to ask for a borrow from time to time. otherwise your wasting your time n money on the first chain
fit it yourself. iirc the chain on a 125 is a split link anyway so no tools needed. then its just the sprockets. they only have bolts in them.
Could you give me a list of the tools most likely needed? Apart from a paddock stand,I don't have one, I use an upturned table chair, don't judge it works,XD
